Just got my first home lab started. I got a virtualized pfsense vpn and CentOS web server. What guest VMs do you have? Thought about maybe spinning up a Windows 2012 server to mess with Exchange or IIS.

FreeNAS, windows with pci passthrough for gaming (steam streaming), unbound dns caching server with dnscrypt-proxy.

Gentoo, but you don't have to use gentoo, any Linux distro will work. In fact, I think you can set up unbound on pfsense, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to use dnscrypt.

So yeah, debian/centos/gentoo for unbound + dnscrypt.
