There are no cheaper alternatives if you want the same features or quality. Only things that come to mind are:
Dell XPS
Lenovo X1

They're on sale and will be consistently for the next few weeks, keep an eye out. Just bought a 512GB 1.2Ghz model for under a grand earlier today.

I second the question.

What I need:
-high resolutions (I read and write a lot, i figure higher res is much better for my eyes)
-very good battery life and sturdyness (I travel a lot for my job)
-longevity of the product, dont want to be forced buy a new device in two years already

nice to have but willing to compromise:
-detachable screen/tablet mode
-touchscreen

not important:
-gayming performance
-storage
-doesnt have to be cheap
