Does data stay safer on SSDs or HDDs?
Like if I were to chuck it away and forget about it for 20 years, would the actual data on either degrade or anything?
>20 years
They'd both be fucked.

HDDs, and less space (informational) HDD has, the more data is safer.

CUTE

maybe that was exaggerated
im just wondering whats better for keeping my shit safe, since nothing directly compares SSDs and HDDs aside from speed

Cloud :^)

but then thats just someone else's disk

Magnetic tape.
pen + paper
in 20 years ssd would be in better shape
If you want to store data for 20 years, use par2 to generate parity data and harden it against bit rot.

What's so important that you want to keep for 20 years?

It was an exaggeration
I just want something where my data stays safe

Normally, one would use tape drives to archive data. They're slow, but can hold a lot of data.
For consumer purposes, get something you can disconnect from your machine like an USB stick. Don't forget to encrypt it.
Diskrot starts within 5 years, gotta keep moving em files senpai

MLC SSD for sure
I use an external hard drive, so far so good.
