You're ignoring everything else that goes along with storage. Don't get me wrong I prefer to have storage on hand in my own hands, but this is truly no different than having cash at home vs having cash at a bank.

When you store the data yourself at home you're banking on nothing happening physically to your home, no floods, no trees falling on your roof, no fires no emergency situations of any kind, you're banking on no corruption of files, you're banking that the interface will exist in five years for you to be able to retrieve your data, and you need the space for all those god damn hard drives.

The benefits are of course, your data is always in your hands, it is a lot quicker than uploading 100TB of data into the internet, god that would take for fucking ever in most of flyover USA.

they offer unlimited because people dont even use a lot. sauce me i used to work backend dev for a company that offered cloud storage. 20 bucks a month for 4tb cloud storage was the most popular plan if i recall. we did some fuckery in the back side to make sure no one is ever allocated the full 4tb unless its actually used for something. the result was not even 0.5% of people used more than 1/8th of the offered storage. we had a lot of customers and i imagine google and amazon have a lot more. i write in past tense but the company i worked for still exists. the whole deal is basically a huge scam it resulted in that particular company not even having the real capacity to accommodate the full 4tb for all customers. its basically free money. plus you get to make statistics from people shit. we had a guy who constructed individual profiles on accounts based on pictures, text documents and music they were storing on there and those were sold in bulk to advertisers. every company that offers cloud storage does the same. normies just dont know that cloud storage is codeword for someone elses computer.
