What do you think of physical home button on smartphones?
>>
>>57392513
I like the on screen ones more, open for customization
>>
>>57392513
I prefer buttons on the back (LG G*) but I think having fingerprint unlock would be pretty comfy desu.
>>
>>57392513
I like it.
>>
Absolutely disgusting. Bezels are for plebeians.
>>
i hated using the on-screen home button when i had the moto droid 2 turbo, won't use one without a physical home again
>>
I love everything about my S5 except for that goddam physical home button
>>
>>57392513
>let's put another point of failure in our design to stand out from the crowd
No
>>
i remember my htc magic with the ball mouse for a home button. I don't like the fingerprint on the back.
>>
>>57392513
literally the only thing keeping android from getting taken over by kikes

>Jews don't like having a physical home
>This is why they don't all move to Israel
>>
>>57392513

Physical buttons are essential for ensuring you can boot into recovery modes
>>
>>57392527
What "customization"?

It's a fucking button that brings you back to home screen. Why do you want to fucking rice everything you get your fat fucking sausage fingers on?
>>
Physical keys are awful, especially on Samsung phones.
>>
>>57394481
He's talking about the navbar on-screen, you can add more buttons/shortcuts to it and easily change their long-press actions.
>>
>>57392527

But depending on your launcher you can optimize hardware buttons as well

Honor 8 and Mate 9 from Huawei have that bro.

Physical button with 3 button press fuctions(press, double press, press and hold), a trackpad so you can scroll too.

I don't know why Google was fucking retarded and went with HTC for the pixel when they could have had the proprietary smartkey from Huawei.
>>
>>57392527
This also one less part failing.
>>
I'm still waiting for the return of slide-out keyboards
>>
>>57392513
i prefer onscreen
they feel nicer
the glowing little pictograms make me feel like i`m using an horrible cheap chinkphone
and the only company who made a good looking and feeling physical home button is Apple
I mean, it`s just a circle. Why cant samsung make a circle instead of an ellipsis
>>
>>57392513
On-screen buttons are just a waste of space

>>57394638
You can do that with physical buttons in nonretarded roms
>>
>>57394692
Apparently huawei didn't want to be just an ODM. They wanted their name on the next Google phone as well so they bailed
>>
Better than on screen ones. It's hard to press it by accident like that.
>>
>>57394848
Why do you have to be so salty ? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others don't. You're not going to make any friends like that.
>>
Way better than on screen buttons.

>>57392527
Hardware buttons are easily customizable as long as you're not using shitty stock ROMs
>>
>>57393997
>>57394729
How about a touch-bar below the screen that is just an extension of the touchscreen without display behind it, so you don't lose any screen space.
Is that the best way?
>>
physical locations of buttons forces consistency.
On apple applications, the back button is always moving around to different corners based on the app, but with android, I can just press the button.
That said, I don't know why the multitask button is preferred over the menu button these days.
>>
>>57394783
patent
>>
>>57392513
Coming from nexus 5x to s7
Prefer onscreen navbar versus hardware physical or capacitive buttons.
At least they're in comfortable reaching range, and applying force to push a physical button is not the most stable thing you can do while holding a glass device by one hand. I had to change my grip to an uncomfortable one.
>>
Maybe I'm just unlucky but I've had 2 iphones with home buttons that failed, I'd rather have onscreen considering it's such a frequently pressed button
>>
>>57392513
I prefer physical buttons, it doesnt waste space and you're fucked if an app/system freezes. Also prefer the clicky tactileness from a good button.
>>
>>57392513
It just werks.
>>
>>57392513
Physical home button is an absolute necessity.
I won't buy a phone without one.
>>
>not wanting a physical home button

Wew lad fucking kill yourself.
>>
>>57392513
Is Samsung the only manufacturere left on the Android side who still makes those?
>>
I dig them. Soft keys are way more likely to not respond when something locks up. My physical home button works pretty much unstoppably.
>>
>>57396482
No Samsung only makes bombs now
>>
>>57392513

Yes please, I also want them on my next phone.

Removing buttons was a mistake.

Fuck you Steve "Sandnigger" Jobs.
>>
>>57396597
Actually no, he was right about removing them.
>>
>>57396620

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG, WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.
>>
Phones need to have the physical buttons, AND need to have a removable battery and sd card slot to even consider being worth it.
>>
I prefer them over on-screen buttons
>>
>>57394692
>I don't know why Google was fucking retarded and went with HTC for the pixel when they could have had the proprietary smartkey from Huawei.
because huawei's "Cracking in half just by touch" Nexus 6p
>>
>>57396620
He was right about refusing chemo, too.
>>
>>57396069
Have you tried using both hands?
>>
I'm OK with lockscreen physical buttons. Home buttons make no sense to me, and they only take space that could be screen.
>>
HTC 10 has perfect buttons.
>>
>>57397716
I could see you preferring a soft home key but saying that hard keys make no sense is retarded.

That's like saying you don't think red cars make any sense because you prefer blue.

>still have a huge bezel at the bottom
>software home button takes up pixels that could be used for displaying contebtt
>>
>>57397717
I think the op3 did it slightly better
>>
Needs to die. It's just one more moving part to wear out or break.
>>
>>57397852
Who the fuck is hammering their home button so much it is breaking?

I keep phones for upwards of 5 years and I've never had a broken home button. The screen always goes first.
>>
>>57397852
Give up your mechanical meme keyboard too. It has individual parts that can break

>>
>people change phones every 1-2 years
>suddenly everyone is worried about durability
>even though old phones had a lot of physical keys and lasted forever
>>
>>57397806
Why make a button that takes screen space when said button could be part of the screen?
>>
Devices like the Nexus 7 that have no physical buttons on the front are sexy as hell
>>
who cares about buttons we want more cores

Give me a good reason why that design shouldn't be the only one to exist on all smartphones.
>>
i don't understand why people don't like them.
they take about as much room as phones without physical buttons.
i still have yet to see a phone that is all 100% screen on the front.

The LG G5 also has this.
>>
>>57398321

the screen breaks quickly on impact
>>
>>57398359
don't throw your phone on the ground.
problem solved.
>>
I hate seeing screenshots from Poordoid which include those ugly on-screen buttons
>>
Never used a phone with an on-screen home button.
Is the power button the only way to wake up such a phone?
It's a lot easier for me to use the physical home button to wake up my phone and check notifications when it's sitting on my desk.
>>
They don't need to be tactile buttons as long as they are offscreen. Like the home button on the HTC 10 Vs the home button on a Samsung s7
>>
>>57398088
Why give up actual screen space to a button instead of using the bezel that's already on the phone to hold the button?

Most of the phones with soft buttons still have huge bezels so you're not gaining any screen, you're losing it
>>
>>57397829
Any fullscreen app will do away with the software buttons making for more screen space.
>>
>>57398661
While also REMOVING FUNCTIONALITY FROM THE PHONE.

Software keys are a meme.
>>
>>57398671
Swipe and they come back.
>>
>>57398700
Assuming the app is responding correctly. If not enjoy pulling your battery which you probably can't do because you had to have the newest phone.
>>
>>57395779
The point is physical buttons are customizable on a rom, plus you can add the on screen buttons on a phone with physical buttons if you want. There is no downside to buttons on the bezel unless your phone is extremely locked down.

That said, i hate the physical clicky home button. My old s2 had all touch sensitive buttons and it was great.

Side note, android devs are pants on head for ignoring the physical menu button in apps with the hamburger menu button shit.
>>
I don't like it
>>
>>57398864
I don't like you, stupid tripfag
>>

lel
>>
bought a new phone.
old phone physical buttons died and i dropped this phone on concrete so many goddamn times that all four edges have cracks. thank god that the screen has never cracked.
loved my old phone because it was rooted.
installed xposed.
installed gravitybox
customized physical buttons.
back:
tap once to go back
tap twice to switch to last opened app
home:
tap once to go to home
long press to kill current app
menu key:
shows apps menu
double tap to show recent apps
in gravity box you could configure each button to do 3 different things.
single tap
long tap
double tap

physical buttons are so much better than software buttons

if there would be BB classic with android, i'd buy it in a heartbeat. Even with this old crapdragon s4, even with square 720x720 screen.
