I'm new to mkg, sorry not sure what that means.

I currently have cherry MX reds for my desktop, but I can't see myself typing fast on that. What would you recommend for typing and occasional gaming? Browns?

I'm in aus. Is that usd? Do they ship here?

I'll be honest, I like to slam down on the return key like a retard and the bigass enter does it for me

PBT is a different type of plastic used for keycaps. They won't shine up with use like ABS caps will.

Just bought my first ever mechanical, needed something for my new pc build. Mostly gaming, but a bit of typing as well. My god does it feel good to type on these things. Between getting a mechanical keyboard and a SSD for my PC I feel like I'm in a whole new world of tech.

Side note, I had typed on mx blues before and liked the feel but they were a bit too loud, and wanted a bit more feedback than reds so I figured browns would be a good mid point. Tried them in the store today and they felt mushy and shitty, glad I went with mx reds

Apparently non-rgb versions of the new topre realforce boards are going to retail for around $230

I hope they don't fuck it up with the variable actuation meme.
>>
>>57389929
This is the one thing I don't get. Topre clones are becoming cheaper and cheaper, with more options to choose from, yet Realforce decides to discontinue their most popular and only budget board with CM and instead choose to make their own copy and sell it for more.

Its like they want they don't want to enter the mass market

They're releasing a type heaven version as well that will retail in the low $100s and that will be the successor to the NovaTouch

Realforce is their boutique series.
>>
>>57390142
You can actually get topre clones as low as 80 bucks now. Hopefully Realforce manages to stay competitive with them like how cherry does with Gaterons and Kailh

Shit they are noisy as fuck... Right now I have a Cooler Master Devastator keyboard (It's kinda shit I guess) so any mechanical will literally be cheaper. I don't want to spend so much, unless I can get a really good black friday deal or something.

The cheaper one uses no name brown switches, my only problem with the keyboard it's self is that in a review it said they have no legs and sit a little bit high. I am used to using the keyboard flat on the table.

Unicomp's definition of "space saver" is that they take a lot of bezel off the top/back of the keyboard (above the F-row).
Normally with regards to model Ms, space saver refers to TKL, but those are much rarer than run of the mill model Ms, and Unicomp doesn't make them.

I think the benefits worth the adaptation, but i'm a web developer so I really have no way of removing mouse from workflow (no vim magic for me). My point is, ergonomic layouts are really intimidating to me mostly because I imagine switching between keyboard and mouse will be much more overwhelming even after the adaptation phase.

Can anyone share their experiences with keyboard/mouse switching on ergonomic layouts?

I'll cross that bridge once I get to it, from what I understand as long as they last me longer than the original caps that came with this eastern times tech board. Within 2 weeks the characters were fading off. I'll look into that board though when it is time to replace my current one though.

that keyboard is a Ducky Shine 3 with aftermarket Ducky Nordic keycaps. Ducky doesn't make the shine 3 anymore, but you could maybe get one used.

As for the keycaps you could message Ducky Nordic on the deskthority forums to see if they still make some sets

Good to know, thanks!
Have you researched before buying this one?
I mean why didn't you picked a curved one? Just having the hands positions to be independent is good enough you think?
>>
>>57392087
>I mean why didn't you picked a curved one?
You mean like a kinesis? I wanted to be able to adjust the two halves as I saw fit. Having the tilt makes a world of difference to me.

Yes, but there is splitted versions of that too.

I scored this junk for $3. Is it worth anything or should I just salvage the keycaps and switches like I planned?

Doubleshot keycaps
ALPS yellow

It probably won't work with a passive adapter on a modern system but otherwise it should work on XT systems.

Ducky Zero w/ cherry MX blues. Hands down best keyboard I've ever used. I use it primarily for work and some gaming. 8-10 hours a day and still feels amazing. My job revolves around data entry and this is the best keyboard I've ever used. I've used a das keyboard with browns before and they feel like crap compared to the blues. If the noise bothers you get some O dampening rings but don't go brown. MSRP is ~$120.

Be aware that the legends will not match what comes out when you type on the keyboard.

I bought a switch tester because it's really hard to gauge what type of switch I'd like purely from descriptions.

Always thought tactile would be best, and the stiffer the better but I prefer the Cherry blue to the green. But the tactile grey feels nice.

Also the Gateron blue feels awesome. I thought it was supposed to be the knock off brand, but I think I prefer it to the Cherry blue.

And throwing out my preconception that tactile/clicky would be the way to go, I think the Cherry black feels rather sexy.

I'm a little bit more informed now but also so fucking confused too. I feel like over the next 6 months I'll end up buying a couple more boards. And then I'll just end up wondering about Zealio switches or something.

Obviously the adapter is the same, so can anyone please help me to find out what's the problem?

I don't know. Its an old keyboard and there could be some other problem with it. Most likely that is the problem. If you do replace them then get all Japanese capacitors. The Taiwanese ones will just leak again.

I'll try that, thanks. It's a BTC dome with sliders over pcb by the way, so I think it's worth a cheap repair.

How many of you here would admit that you type faster on scissor switches / chiclet keyboards than on any mechanical keyboard you've tried.

It's a bit silly to admit considering how much money I've spent on them, but I definitely type faster and with fewer errors on chiclet keyboards.

It's due to the travel distance probably.

Guess it's time to try the Microsoft Ergo Sculpt.
>>
>>57402170
typing speed for me is about the same since I don't bottom out my switches

I don't bottom out on most of the keys either, but I don't really tryhard at it.
>>
>>57402392
I do bottom out on some of the keys too, the 100g of force needed to bottom out does help not bottoming out.

Don't listen to >>57391937 anon. They have decent caps which will last you a few years unless you are a filthy beta who has disgusting greasy hands all the time, the big reason to chose a WASD keyboard though is their actual keyboards (not key caps).

They are one of the few companies who produce minimalist boards and will build them to your specifications. I ordered mine a while back with mixed MX blue and green switches and is by far the best board i have ever had the pleasure of using.

I chose to have greens installed on the majority of the board but the WASD and L-Shift are blues. Pic related.

Gaming.

Blues are lighter than greens and for sustained presses (walking and holding shift for running) it puts less strain on your hands. Conversly stiffer switches across the reactive skill keys means less misclicks.

I guessed that much, but doesn't that feel like shit when typing?

but it's not how fast you type, but how confortable you're and having fun while typing
>>
>>57402830
I was a bit worried about that when I ordered it, but honestly its not very noticable. I think it's because when I am touch typing my pinky, ring, and middle fingers on my left hand are weaker than my index finger or right hand in general. So those keys actually benefite having less resistance any way.

I would suggest it to anyone who games frequently.

>>
>>57403977
For true respect? You need beam springs.
>>
>>57403674
I downloaded something like a HHKB catalogue about the Type-S from PFU.
It said that the travel is 3.8mm.
"New design pursuing high-speed typing 3.8 mm stroke model"
I used Google Translate on the Japanese document.
>>
>>57404275
And a typical Topre switch has a travel of 4mm, the o-rings in a Type-S reduce it by 0.2mm.

If I saw an M15 for a decent price I'd definitely get it but that sort of keyboard would be wasted on me. I wouldn't use it, simply because I can't. I suck with anything 'ergonomic'.

and because its the same color palate that i'm going to put on the 9100x except for the letters.

Or just save your old keyboards until you inevitably need another keyboard.

Or bring it to work.

You could always trace the matrix and replace the intel controller with a teensy running custom gh60 firmware or something. I had an old keyboard like that except I ended up cutting the plate and removing the numberpad and function row to make it a 60% and then I just wired up a new matrix.

Looking for an all black, maybe black coloured aluminium casing (if it's possible) mechanical keyboard that is backlit. Doesn't have to be rgb or anything fancy, just good white light would be fine, rocking the quietest cherry MX switches, whatever they are. Need an ANSI layout and would like to have a numpad as well, don't need macros or any of that fancy shit either.

TL;DR What's a quiet, backlit, ANSI + numpad mechanical keyboard that's all black ('stealth' sort of look) with a decent build quality?

Also, how do O-rings work? I heard they can be added to cut down on noise but do they have any shit 'side effects?'
>>
>>57402079

They're on par with simplified white ALPS, which is none too surprising considering that's what they're cloning.

Not as good as complicated, but then neither are genuine simplified white alps.

I've tried out keyboards in passing through stores and like the feel of greens and blues the most. Linear switches felt "lacking".

But Topre are basically linear. You get a perfectly even resistance until the dome collapses and the switch actuates right near the end of travel.
