I wouldn't recommend it since its horribly outdated. Also mechanical keyboards have exploded in popularity and now there are options for pretty much everything.
Its much better to use the buyers template and list of your requirements then to go looking through pages and pages of different keyboards asking questions about each one you come across

Where can I get keycap replacements for my CM Quickfire TK for a reasonable price?

The biggest problem is the non standard bottom row and I don't really know of anyone that makes specialty keycaps. You could buy individual blank keycaps that will fit, but that's really about it for that row. Everything else is standard which you can buy on places like ebay for super cheap

Been using this every day for almost two years now. Don't plan on changing it in the near future but I need to know if there is a stiffer key than blues. Blues are too light for me, but greens are harder to find. I will probably buy a 60%.
If I don't change this one then I'm thinking about getting new keycaps because they're worn and shiny. Any suggestions?

Depends on the switches and use case. Click and/or tactile switches provide haptic feedback on switch actuation. A competent typist will use this to increase accuracy and decrease how often they bottom out. Mech switches are also more consistent over their lifespan, so you don't end up compensating for changing switch behavior. Not bottoming out hard all the time is also better for avoiding joint-related RSI.
What they won't do is magically make a shitty typist faster.

I've got the CM Storm Quickfire XT as my first mechanical keyboard and I'm getting the Godspeed SA keycap set. Went with brown Cherry MX switches with o-rings to not disturb my girlfriend. Feels just like a rubber dome keyboard but with much better quality.
I'm spending a fortune on the keycaps because of the numpad and because I need a nordic ISO set, but I love the look.

I wouldn't say it's worth it compared to other mechanical keyboards which you can get much cheaper with the mx blues, it's really down to personal preference, the matte finish is very nice and it feels good to type on.

Ok so, I need help. I am looking for a new keyboard under $150 USD, and I can't check out on the mechanicalkeyboards site. I used to have a Leopold FC750R with browns, which was top tier in my mind, but it was stolen. Now I am in the market for a new one. You can't really compare clicky and non-clicky switches. The feel is too different. There are "tactile" switches (Cherry browns and clears) but they feel much more like linear switches (Cherry browns and reds, Razer orange) than any kind of clicky switch.

What you can do is modify the switches themselves and put landing pads inside to silence the click. That's something I've never tried but every once in a while there's someone who swears by it.

I have a razer blackwidow 2013.
Didn't really want it but had bestbuy gift cards and its the only mech they sold at the time. It has held up really well so far and i do love them blues.

I do want to buy another type keyboard at some point and maybe try out a different switch type. Blues can be a tad loud at times.

Found this EagleTec KG011 at a flea market for $10. It uses Outemu Blue switches, which are way fucking loud, and the large metal top plate makes them reverberate like crazy. How long does it take to "break in" these switches?

It's probably related to costs management and processing power.

It took Ducky multiple generations before they produced a keyboard with RGB LEDs. Admittedly, Corsair had that since some time, but corsair also had a plethora of issues with their LEDs in the past.

And you wouldn't believe how much little things that you'd expect to cost next to nothing can actually cost.

Add to that that cooler master has probably been planning those RGB boards for some time already, given that they seem to have reacted to community feedback on the Pro M model and fixed that atrocious bottom row that was on the quickfire TK.

I actually bought a Dolch keyboard several years ago and made an adapter for it. I'm not technical-minded at all, so it should be easy for any real /g/entooman...RIGHT?!
Anyway, easy because it "speaks" PS/2.
I took the PS/2 cable off a crappy old rubberdome and confirmed the wire colors online. Bought an RJ45 junction box (I think that's what it was)--RJ11 is the same except it doesn't use one wire or something, so RJ45 is fine.
Then checked the wiring colors on the Dolch (think I found this on geekhack) and stripped the end of each of the PS/2 cable's wires and wrapped them in the corresponding places in the junction box.
That was it. I got a PS/2 to USB adapter, which I think made it 2KRO, but I was using it for typing.

PBT is quite nice. It's a bit of a matter of preference, but people generally prefer PBT, dyesubbing is the only acceptable method for printing legends onto PBT keycaps.

WASD keycaps are shit thin ABS, not worth the price unless you absolutely want some custom design.

I do gayming from time to time. And now my 'Q' key and '1' key are inconsistently failing. They are Cherry MX brown and red each. well, thjis is probably the first time that I fell for a bad meme. I bought a mechanical keyboard and I must say that is is really a bad experience. Just typing this is a pure nightmare. There are some VERY cheap ($40 USD) boards these days, like the Magicforce 68 or the AULA Demon King. These are built with clone switches, not the original Cherry brand, but they're cheap enough to try out some different things and you can always mod them if you get bored. You sound like you might enjoy blacks or browns, so I'd start with one of those.

If you're really not sure, you can get a switch tester. However, there are two types of switches that you absolutely won't find on switch testers: Buckling springs (like >>57376006 mentioned) and electrocapacitives (synonymous with the Japanese brand Topre). These are often seen as "luxury" switch types.

Buckling springs were used in the famous IBM Model M keyboards that are pretty much indestructible. They are deliberately designed to have the same tactile feedback as an electric typewriter. People sometimes compare these to "walking in heavy boots on a wooden floor."

Electrocapacitive switches are basically just "rubber domes done right," which sounds dumb at first, but apparently they are heavenly to actually type on, because of the hybrid construction (with a plunger and a separate sensor underneath) where you don't have to bottom out and the keys quickly pop back up under your fingers.

If you want some really fun and tactile switches you could check out alps. Sadly the company's mechanical switch division went bankrupt because their switches were too well built. You can however still buy old keyboards with those switches for really cheap on eBay. Dell AT101w sell for around 40 bucks and are much more durable then all the Chinese keyboards in the same price point. You can also go for apple keyboards (pic related) that also use alps switches and sell for $40, but you need an adapter because apple has to have proprietary connection son everything.

Why would you recommend blacks for someone who wants stiffer blues? The difference is signifigant, and blacks are just as hard if not harder to find than greens. I'd say try blacks or reds and see if you like linears, otherwise green or buckling springs.

For green I'd definitely throw you to a pok3r, seeing youre looking for a 60%. Buckling springs aren't easy to find either, being only produced by unicomp, but they feel fucking amazing. Try them out if you get a chance, but warning, they're pretty loud and don't come in anything but full sized iirc, unless you want to spend some on a ibm space saving keyboard.

Rubber domes go from somewhere around 60g or so of resistance to zero as soon as they collapse. You just go right down to bottoming-out on inertia.

Same thing happens with Topre. Even though you don't have to bottom out capacitive domes to register a keypress, you can't feasibly avoid it because to the force curve.

Domes also snap back up with a pop instead of a spring's more gradual bounce, which can cause loud clacking on the upstroke depending on board construction.

Just got a motospeed CK104 with gay RGB per key lighting for £40. I don't much care for the lighting but it can easily be switched off (plus it's controlled entirely by the onboard processor). I've never heard Cherry Blue switches in person but they're a lot higher pitched than I thought they'd be. The sound is oddly non intrusive as well as satisfying.

The weird thing is that it immediately upped my WPM from 75 to 85 with zero mistakes.

I also type about ~130wpm so the feel of the razer keyboard that I played with at best buy felt great. I wouldn't mind buying a razer keyboard either, just want to explore my options before I make a purchase.

Rosewill is a budget imitation version of Filco keyboards which sell for 150+

Tomoko is just a budget keyboard that has some budget knockoff switch

MX switches are manufactured by the Cherry corp and when their patents expired other manufactures began to copy them.
These knockoffs are very similar to cherry switches but there might be some inconsistency between the switches since their quality control isn't as high as cherry.

Other manufactures like Gateron took the cherry design and improved them making it even smoother and more tactile.

There is nothing wrong with buying knockoff switches, but some people prefer cherry due to their tighter tolerances and more consistent feel.

From experience cherry switches are lighter and have a lower pitch compared to their knockoffs.

Why not get one of the teensy keyboard pcbs with the switches you want, set all keys to be function keys via qmk firmware and then use that in addition to your current keyboard? how many function keys do you want?

Then maybe buckling springs are the right kind of switch for you since they were designed to mimic a typewriter.
You can get them on Unicomps website for 80 bucks or you can get a used ibm model m on ebay for 60 bucks

Probably the nicest typing experience I've had so far. Topre is very nice, but the gateron clears are just bliss to type on. It feels like I'm pushing down pillars of air.

Just tried it and I end up touching the sharp end more when the spacebar is reversed. I prefer my HHKB to have its spacebar in the normal position.
If I were gaming it might be a little nicer, though.

Just figured how to fix my problem. Go to language settings and select the Japanese keyboard. The default one after restarting wont be it but that can be changed by removing the QWERTY keyboard so the Japanese is the only one then add it back if you want to. I did. Now I dont feel so bad about buying Japanese boards.
