Question I recently learned a little bit about planned obsolescence and I'm wondering if you guys have experience with reliable and durable computer brands, or if you can suggest the best way to get the bang for our buck when buying a laptop or desktop.

Build a desktop pc with maximum available specs at the moment. Would work for 7 years straight.
Literally been using this T60 from 2006 every day. It's the best computer I've ever owned.
Something major will have to happen to this to make me even think of trading it in.
Most of the time obsolescence is purely a state of mind.

You could spend half as much on 2 year old specs and it will last just as long.
Besides, this attitude is what allows for bloat to occur.

2-year old motherboards have no M.2 and U.2 drive options. Modern CPUs are slightly more powerful and energy efficient. DDR4 Ram can be clocked at 4Ghz, giving performance boost in different software and gayms. However, this is not true for most laptops. They have heat dissipation issues and sometimes run slower han previous year thicker models. They lack high-speed ram in favor of energy-efficiency and have poor connectivity options.
