How often do you format and reinstall your operating system, /g/?
Whenever I get memed into thinking I can use arch without fucking up something 30 minutes after installing.
Then I go back to 10 enterprise because my laptop didn't came with W7 drivers and I'm not going to spend weeks downloading them off of shady Russian websites and risking ransom ware.
When I get around to it I'm going to image the install next time so I can actually reinstall every other month like I need to.
Fucking piece of shit 840EVO TLC nand.

Whenever I get dick deep in Kernel code.
>needing to reinstall your OS to clean stuff up
windows users, everybody
I install a different Linux distro on my laptop weekly. Help. Me.
>>57379729
Why?
You should literally install five distros then.
Only thing that makes a difference for end user is package manager.
When I change motherboard
Or system drive
>>57379729
>Help. Me.
Linux Lite
LXLE.
Usually when I chuck something new in, so it feels like the purchase was justified.
>>57379416
>fucking up an arch install
new!
>>57379270
Never.
Too often. I got a good feeling about this one, though.
I re installed a lot when in had windows xp on my old pc, no i have 7 and no more
i boot from live usb so literally every day
>>57379729
Install Arch and call it good.
>>57379270
Not often, usually when something has Windows on it

I'm just gonna go with Xubuntu and be done with it

yearly or even more often than that on windows.
I've never reinstalled macOS in the 4 years I've had the laptop because it still runs perfect.
>>57379270
Once every 3 years before windows 10
Now never :3
Based windows.
i've had debian on my laptop for a few years now, but i reinstall windows every couple of months
>>57379270
Not a reinstall but about four years ago I installed gentoo on my laptop. Still running that as a daily without a problem.
>>57379614
Hold on a second, I was on OS X Yosemite and tried to "get info" on the Network icon in finder, and the computer crashed and wouldn't boot properly so I had to reinstall. Windows isn't the only source of problems.
> Reinstalling windows
> Being this retarded
Haven't needed to reinstall windows since I first built the rig. What are you even putting your computer through to warrant a reinstall every few months? How can you fuck up that bad?
>>57379270
>How often do you format and reinstall your operating system, /g/?
Never.
I just upgrade existing installations or do a fresh install if I get new hardware.
>>57379601
Why? Why not keep a kernel version that works?
>>57380605
How the fuck did you manage that? I managed to delete my entire /usr/bin folder because of that retarded bug in the Steam uninstaller, and I still managed to recover the OS without reinstalling.

frequently.

amazing bait

>>57379270
my windows xp computers very often usually about every 2 to 3 months, my win 7 computers quite often about every 3 to 6 months sometimes more, my win 10 computers about every major update. It has got to the point where I have purposely crippled the updating system on win 10 so it no longer updates. On my Debian Linux computers about once every 6 to 10 months, on my Linux Mint computers, about every 10 to 12 months, on my Manjaro computer about every 3 weeks.
>>57380716
I don't know! I messaged apple help and they said they'd call me. They didn't so I just reinstalled.
>>57380794
That's even more confusing. I reported a bug in their bug reporting tool (no the community forum, but the actual bug reporting tool) and overnight my issue was debuged and solved and I got a hotfix patch for the problem. Of course, it was written by a Pajeet developer, but I swallowed my white pride and tainted my pure OS with his poo, but it actually worked.
>>57379270
Every 2 years or so.
Win 7.
once in 2011 due to my own stupidity
>>57380787
forgot to mention my servers
Suse linux 10 server edition (mail server, terminal services for thin clients) about every 5 years
windows 2003 server about every 2 years (for remote login via windows terminal services, running distributed software to various thin clients)
windows server 2012 (VPN Logins) about every 18 months
Debian minimal install running as a server (backup to suse) about every 3 years

they were all shit

Full retard mode.
>>57381187
it doesn't even matters what your distro is
install some netinst/base system and build your system on top of it
the only difference between distros is in what way package managing is done and what init does it use
>>57381237
I'm not doing that until wayland comes out and supports major DEs
I fucking hate X so much
>>57380374
same lad
>>57379270
more often than most, maybe once every month, i like to tweak Linux source code and rebuild parts and meddle with configs in /etc sometimes with great results and and eventually i go overboard and screw it up so i wipe the OS off and do a clean install
>>57379270
Never, that's for Linux ricers. Windows now, Windows tomorrow, Windows forever.
>>57381639
I rarely ever format and I use Linux.
Ubuntu, once a month to clean stuff up
>installs shit
>+1GB
>uninstalls the same shit
>-150MB
Windows: rarely ever since Windows 7 arrived, at one point my installation even survived a mobo + CPU change from C2D to Core i. Windows XP was a shitfest and needed a wipe + reinstall every 6 months or so.
Loonicks: whenever I feel to distrohop but ever since I discovered Fedora I'm less prone to it, as it's the only non-rolling distro I know with recent packages and good support that doesn't shit the bed and fucks itself up beyond repairability after a version upgrade.
I reformat whenever I have to do a major change, or something goes bad.
When my HDD was dying and I got a new one, I reformated.
I got like 1000 malware infections from a download of FL Studio I got from TPB, so I reformated.
I got an SSD and put it in my computer as a main drive, I reformated.
It feels good to reformat like once a year at least.

>>57379416
my arch install is 5 months strong

>>57379270
Haven't done it in 2 years, apart from some parallel linux installs
lel
Been running the same Windows XP install since 2010. I have no idea how can you guys fuck up your computers so much that you'd need to reinstall your OS to fix them.
>>57380809
Did that turn you on?
>>57379270
Only when my windows gets glitched which almost never happens. I'm using my current installation for a year now
Windows, usually once every year or two.
Linux, once I get the urge to try some new distro before I eventually delete it and go back to Arch.
>>57379270
I wipe my hard drive and install a new OS every night.
I only run Live USBs, so every couple of hours
>>57382470
top kek
>>57379270
Once or twice a year.
Multiple OS's will do that for you on the same drives
Depends.
My work computer use ubuntu.
I install that 2-8 months after the LTS comes out, so I keep it for 2 years.
My personal computer uses arch, and I haven't reinstalled that for a very long time. I think the installation is about 4 years old now.
When I was younger, I installed it a lot because I only had one computer, but these days are luckilly over.
>>57379270
only when i change the drive its installed on.
whenever I need to leave the house.
I only ever do in place upgrades to fix issues. Or I will just restore a backup. There really is no need to install Windows 10 over and over unless you are an autist.
