It stems from the lack of progress. When you know you have nothing besides gimmicks and have to work to sell it convincingly, you struggle to be effortlessly convincing. When you have another iPhone about to unveil to the world, you can be the biggest smug bastard showing off the most inconsequential feature because it has never been seen before.
