On PC, Winamp.
On Mac, iTunes and a few others.

I listen to MP3 streams and video game music rips. So I have a bunch of Winamp input plugins to take care of that on PC, and about 3 video game music players on Mac.

I went down the whole tilingwm route using ncmpcpp etc and it was just a meme honestly. OSX does everything better than Linux ever did and developing is much easier in a lot of cases aside from C which is just for pet projects anyway.
>>
Blackplayer on android
>>
>>57377694
ncmpcpp has nothing to do with tiling.
>>
>>57377721
Right...? I was just saying I did the whole tiling WM setup fad and ncmpcpp is a popular choice for a tiling wm setup.
>>
>>57377694
i just aliased playitagainsam to my favorite options and rotation and let it be, i don't see a reason for overthinking it.

using aliases for settings makes it less dumb when trying to do basic stuff. a simple script and it will even pull up the album art if that's needed.... i donno

I had fun with it, it just get's tiring after a while. It'd be different if I was still in school like a lot of people on this board and had time to play with Linux but I just cant' spend that time anymore. Getting older I've gained an appreciation for polish and doing things the hard but functional way to show off online and call anyone who takes the easy route a "fisher price" user. I get that people on here actually need something to show for themselves but after a while people have to do actual work and not play around with an OS.

Wine will let you run windows programs on linux, for foobar its as easy as
apt-get install wine and clicking on the exe. Deadbeef works a lot like foobar except it runs on linux and is open source, >>57379236 is a great example of what it can do.

Yes, a proper library creates a database with the files and its metadata, making searching through it a breeze. It also manages newly created files automatically and adds them to the library. This also enables the program to keep track of the files and add additional statistics that the user can use to create dynamic playlists like ones he never listened to before or only ones that have a specific rating range. Additionally, a library has separate view modes to select something from it, be it album view, tree view or something else.
All the import menu does is putting the selected folder into a playlist and that's it, its also embarrassingly slow at that.

used to use aimp, but then they got cucked and turned into a bloatfest.

now i use audacious, which behaves exactly like good ol' winamp 2.95, and even supports classic winamp skins.

but if you're one of those people who likes to watch your music player while listening to music instead of minimizing it in the backround you're better off using Winyl or musicbee

I was the same ten years ago until I discovered rating my shit and using dynamic playlists, it's not really possible without library functionality. I would love to let my filemanager handle that. It would be interesting managing other files that way. We are sadly too many years away from a proper filesystem based on tagging instead of folders.
