What would somebody spot something coming toward earth with? Like in movies when people get readings of UFOs what do they use?

Radar. And if something were coming towards earth it would probably be NASA that spotted it first.

a telescope.

there are telescopes that automatically track objects in space, there arent many of them and most things are unseen.

Thanks man. I needed something like "radar" to narrow down my research.
>>
>>57375229
Wow really? I thought with all the satellites up there that it'd be widely monitored all the time.
>>
>>57375265
I think he meant there aren't very many unknown orbit objects in space. You can buy a telescope, computer aided guide, and computer for around 5k.

They monitor the big stuff all the time. We are tracking pretty much all extinction level near-Earth objects in our solar system.

We aren't tracking smaller stuff pretty much at all by comparison. The smaller stuff, though, can still wipe out cities, countries, etc., be disastrous for our civilization... But they wouldn't destroy all life on the planet.

Even those, however, we will see coming. Just not until they are pretty close and we have few options, if any, to stop them.

Anyone kinda wish a big old rock would just drop from the sky? Humanity needs some sort of calamity to get its shit together. There are way to many stupid people alive now.
