There's --sub-codepage which can be used with iconv/uchardet/enca to detect and convert subtitle encodings automatically

But the bottom line for subtitlte encoding is “use UTF-8 and convert broken files to UTF-8”. Don't expect much help getting broken files to work

It's not like he's not available anymore, he's active in IRC and pushing stuff sometimes but nowhere near as often as earlier.
That in itself is not the problem (you can't expect someone to be active for free) but there are also a few PRs that are left unattended. Issues pile up as well.

Also, is it just me or does it feel like the "developer community"/contributors around mpv are pretty much the same people all the time and get fewer in numbers (no new people)?

MPV noob here, Is there something like this for MPV? And how do I get it working if there is?

I.E, I press D and I get a list of subtitles taken from opensubs or wherever.

It's the main reason why I still use MPC on my windows partition. it's just so damn comfortable.

Personally I use https://gist.github.com/selsta/ce3fb37e775dbd15c698 together with Subliminal.

You can get subliminal through pip as per usual with Python stuff. On Windows it's a little harder to get working however, though it is possible.

It should be called "scripts". Don't call it anything else.

Put the script inside the scripts folder. If you've installed Subliminal already through pip for example you can simply press "b" with a video file up and it'll search for subtitles.

Yes: https://launchpad.net/~mc3man/+archive/ubuntu/mpv-tests

That one works great.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/mpv-tests
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mpv

Also install youtube-dl. Easiest way:
sudo curl -L https://yt-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl -o /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl

sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl

Then simply run
mpv 'http://youtube.com/myvideo'

You might need to quote the URL depending on whether or not your terminal does that automatically or not.

this is my favorite way to watch youtube videos now, just drag & drop URLs onto mpv and voila~ (assuming you have youtube-dl installed)

a .bat script to open mpv and a contained chrome tab showing subs feed:

C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --app="https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions"

start C:\Users\[Username]\mpv.exe

exit /B

works really well for sites like vlive.tv too assuming you have autosub.lua and vlive.lua installed from https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts

some mpv.conf options:

no-border
keep-open
ontop
ytdl-format='bestvideo[ext=mp4][width<=1920][height<=1080]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]' OR ytdl-raw-options=format="[protocol!=http_dash_segments][protocol!=rtmp]"

The DRM for the 720p streams was cracked a while ago. But the 1080p streams you can only get on PC with IE/Edge/the store app, and that uses stronger DRM.
Amazon originally used the weaker DRM that Netflix uses for the 720p streams, but they switched to that stronger DRM as well after people figured out how to rip their stuff.

They use it internally, they just don't release whatever they're using to the public, so it doesn't get patched. Obviously any decryption would be done client side, so there's no "exploit" that would be obvious to Netflix from using whatever tool they have.

Good. mpv needs to project an image that makes these people go away. The less normies using mpv, the less retarded bug reports and /mpv/ posts. People who want the dumb GUI features that VLC has actually should be using VLC. mpv is a descent of MPlayer, which is a command line video player. It should not cater for GUI users. If you didn't use MPlayer back in its prime, you shouldn't be using mpv now.

The reason there's no public tool and probably won't ever be is that it's simple to update streaming DRM (because the user has to be online and if his software isn't up to date then he can't watch shit) so when someone releases a tool you can just see how it works and add some more obfuscation/change shit around so they have to figure out things again, it's a game of cat and mouse. Now, I don't know what DRM Netflix uses but if it's Silverlight then it's most likely Microsoft PlayReady which sends you an individualized executable or some DLL called an Individualized Black Box that's heavily obfuscated, uses white box crypto and only decrypts stuff meant for you obviously.

It's not an exploit because this whole DRM scheme relies on obfuscation which you have to figure out, an exploit would be applicable if you had to find a bug which would allow you access to some protected area, think hardware based DRM like phone jailbreaks or whatever.

>>57393562
My guess is 1080p uses Secure Video Path which is hardware based DRM, people don't fucking realize what's coming
