Computers and phones don't get their timing from Quartz. Most electronics with clocks get timing from the AC supply frequency, 50hz. Phones have Quartz for processor timing but the phones time is set by the network and of ntp

Guys, I have a question about NATOs.

I was compiling a list of sellers, partly to update strap guide, partly because I want a new one. I was already set on Timefactors from which I bought plenty, plus their latest straps have sick bead blasted rings with angled corners. And then I checked ToxicNATOs which I heard a lot about, and I saw the exact SAME FUCKING RINGS.

And there's more! For some reason, the webpage title of ToxicNATOs' shop is literally
>ToxicN8os nato strap, nylon strap, timefactors | toxicnatos.com | ToxicNATOs
Is there an affiliation with Timefactors or are they merely stealing Google referencing? Nowhere on the internet is there a proper webpage implying a link between the two, yet clearly they have the same steel hardware, and probably same straps as well. On top of that, ToxicNATOs is a new kid around the block yet has WAY MORE COLORS AND FINISHES than the old Timefactors.

Is that all? No. All their straps look like plenty others I see elsewhere, and then their disclaimer says this:
>Were are not affiliated with International Watchman, and we DO NOT claim ownership of G10 or NATO. Zulu, and Maratac are registered trademarks of Maratac Inc.
Their other straps certainly look identical to Maratacs and IWs, which ironically are both along with Timefactors in the absolute top fucking highest range of NATO straps, so I can obviously confirm they're the best straps out there. Still, they're the exact same straps, albeit much pricier.

So are they just selling the same straps from the same manufacturers even though the aformentioned brands have been claiming to produce their own for over a decade, is there a stealthy affiliation, is there a scam, is ToxicNATOs only the US reseller considering IW are Swiss and Timefactors are Brits?

Anyone has any slight idea why they're selling the same straps for twice the price?

Anon, i just found my watch. Always was on the search for something 'minimal'. Nearly bought some meme watch. But i stayed strong...

All i wanted was a good looking analog watch. But no "Bulg Eye" like the Diver (just not my style). Now i found something, i really like. What can you tell me about the SNAF51P1 ?
>>
>>57368663
Can't you just take your watch off and put it in your pocket / bag? If you travel your commute DAILY than you should know how long it takes. It isn't ideal but if you're that autistic about that'll do.

It's one of the countless obscure Seiko models only a couple buyers know about. Seriously they have so many some suspect they may have even more than Casio.

Still if you wanted something minimal, there's more minimal. Try a Seiko Cocktail Time, or one of the many basic Seikos.

Thanks for the quick reply.

But "minimal" is not the exact term. I just like thin lines. I mean minimal like a Breitling Navitimer World (of course i will never own this one but just as an example). It is fully featured and kind of minimal because everything is pretty filigree. Also the Seiko Cocktail Time is out of my budget. Was looking for something below 200 Euro as good looking, analog daily driver.

Or, or, you just buy a bunch of chink $2 straps made in the exact same factory.

>>57369544
Well that's a lot of lies then, especially from Timefactors.

Still, straps at ToxicNATOs and NATOstraps.com are $6 to $10 more expensive than others, and shipping is like $4. So they're pretty much rip offs when you know that.

There isn't a single MM300 sold that deviates more than 5s a day, and the consistancy will be rock solid.
Seiko USA will service a MM300 for around 300 bucks for a full cleaning and oiling.
At around 3k theres nothing wrong with the seamaster pro, especially with the 7-9 service interval, and again Omega USA will do a full service for around 300 bucks.
>>
>>57370325
You seem like a reasonable person
>>
>>57370834
>5s a day

Or it could do +14s/d and Seiko will refuse to regulate it under warranty because it's within spec.

Then you can try get quotes for regulating a mono block watch and enjoy your sticker shock.

Again, there hasn't been a single MM300 sold over +- 5 secs. This is a gs movement not a 7s26
A seamaster pro has a better bracelet, bezel and will need to be serviced less and MUCH cheaper than the BB.
I love the BB red but tudor will fuck you on servicing the in house movement.
You can get the ETA but at 3k the omega is the much better watch for the same money.

I actually really like Seikos in general, it's just that one watch that annoys the shit out of me because putting an unadjusted movement in a one piece case is fucking retarded.

If they made that watch with a normal screw back case I'd be shilling it like crazy because then it would be easy to have it regulated or to do.it yourself and just get it pressure tested afterwards.

I wear my g shock while I ride all the time. I do worry about anything analog though. ALSO, having it on your handle bars will only significantly amplify the vibrations. Keep it on your wrist, or in a pocket or bag, but do NOT fix it to your bike like you have shown. Nice bike btw m8.

It's hardly large, it's about 5mm wide.

I meant it sticks out far enough to grab it easily. A lot of quartz watches have fairly recessed crowns because you rarely need to use them.

Automatic watches do not take much to keep them going. Seiko uses a very effecient design they call the "magic lever" that allows it to wind bi-directionally.

If you walk around the house/outside much at all you should be fine. Otherwise you might have to shake it a little. Pretty sure orient now makes some pretty cheap watches with handwinding now such as the bambino v4 and mako 2 (not 100% if the 2nd one is the right model). There are also some Chinese watches with habdwinding at that price point but you have to be careful about quality control with those.

>My Komandirskie is polished. Love the watch, hate the cheap looking polished case.

The problem with Komandirskies is that their cases are chromed plated brass and not stainless steel like the Amphbias. If you ever decide to brush it, you will end up having a bronze colour case.

Well that's 10 people who go on /fa/, I don't think that says much about what /fa/ does to people who go there in general

That fit is decent and wouldn't get a lot of hate on /fa/ (if any), although you can definitely see it doesn't come from someone who seems to care a lot about how their dressed and have a very personal style. In fact this is so basic that there's not really anything to talk about here, I think.

>>57384413
If you're only looking at your own perception of it, sure, but if you take into account the now pretty damn old watch making tradition and aesthetics, you'll soon distinguish what are valid watches and what has been made to appeal to people who don't care about horology and just want something on their wrist that they think look cool.

Nothing wrong with that last option, but you can't expect people who are passionate about watches to not shit on those objects who are based onto the real thing, and then made the design and the construction worse in every aspect.

I don't know if there's 0 tradition, maybe I'm not knowledgeable about tool watches, but I think if you were to look there, you'd find either models that inspired this model, or something that isn't a tool watch but has been reimagined to fit inside the universe of a sci-fi movie (which, let's not forget, is where it comes from)

Also I'd say Seiko knows how to make good watches, so you can at least count on this one to be functional, and to have unified form and function to a pretty high degree

lastly, even the most reputable brands can come up with models that are made to appeal to a certain market/demographic, and have that model stray very far from either good taste (however subjective that is, it doesn't mean it can't be collectively shared by a lot of people) or their own traditions

For instance a few months ago, I read a letter that John Mayer sent to IWC to ask them what the fuck was happening to them, and they replied. Whatever your feelings about the exchange, you can tell there's one guy who's passionate about watches, and then a brand which is just as passionate but also has to deal with the reality of the market, and they have to try to not go under if they stick to their old, albeit proven and tasteful designs.

Now it's a Vostok Amphibia with brushed finish, looks much better now imo. The mesh bracelet goes next.

Indeed.

Got it for about 120 shipped, as the previous owner said it was 2big4him.
>>
>>57384177
I want to like it, but it has way too much bezel for my taste.

It does get points for showing the week as Monday-Sunday, though.

I just ordered this pajeet tier watch for 12 dollars from China. What can I expect?

Whats the difference between a seiko grand Quartz and a King Quartz?

I've been on the lookout for a penismeme, and stumbled across a good quality Grand quartz, want to know if its worth the extra 80$ I was expecting to pay
>>
>>57387358
Expect the strap to feel bad and the watch itself to just be junk. It will be a fine piece to help explain and demonstrate how a watch works if anyone asks, as they can see the components.
>>
>>57387337
depends what you're looking for in a watch
>>
>>57387298
White>blue
>>
>>57387391
The grand quartz often has nicer / special finishing. It also often uses a twinquartz movement.

Favinov now sells fully lumed Amphibia dials. Any idea how these are made? Are they just done by freehand over the dial print?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WATCHES-PARTS-ALL-SYMBOLS-HAND-PAINTED-SUPERLUMIA-DIAL-913-VOSTOK-AMPHIBIA-Z165-/222207494887

I'm only asking because I already have lume powder, laquer and a certain amount of steady hand, and it would be waaaaaay cheaper if I could do this myself with similar results.

Racist
>>
>>57387732
Why??
>>
>>57387991
It's basically a 2824 without the rotor module.
Handwinding will wear out the watch in around 3 years if you're doing it everyday
Not THAT big an issue, parts are everywhere for ETA movements
>>
>>57387977
If you know some blue people I would love to meet them.

If possible, swiss brand.
Kind of minimalistic and good looking.
I think a prefer roman numerals instead of latin.
And I hate that square date thing. (Date window?)
>>
>>57388273
Roman numerals are literally Latin
>>
>>57388294
>>57388273
I think he means arabic

Could the average G-Shock survive in space outside of a spacecraft? I know the LCD likely won't work in the extreme temperatures, but would the watch continue to function fairly normally?
>>
>>57388081

Wait. Are you telling me that the Swatch Jews literally used the ETA 2824 as the basis for a hand wind only model WITHOUT FIXING THE OVER WINDING FLAW!?'!!

Jesus K Christ, they really have no shame at all, do they!?

No I actually meant latin. We call then "römische Ziffern" in German.

Bullshit, manual wind ETA 28xx movements have a simple non-oscillating crown wheel.
>>
>>57385061
Now peel away the shitty crown wrap and brush the real one
>>
>>57389978
Wait, there's a real steel crown under the Amphibias chromed crown?
>>
>>57390075
It's brass if I remember correctly.
>>
>>57390091
Then I shouldn't keep brushing it or it will get a bronze color
>>
>>57388652
Fun fact, DW5600 is certified for space walks by NASA and is by far the most worn watch on the ISS
>>
>>57389076
It still eats itself
>>57388711
It's not an over-winding problem, it's a hand winding problem
