I've had the opposite experience.
>swap from Windows to Linux
>use for several years, do the normal distro-swapping until I settle on a set-up I like, learn about scripting and configuring a system
>eventually get tired of updates breaking shit on a regular basis and generally bad laptop support
>constantly feel like a 2nd-class citizen when I want to get any work done that can't just be done in emacs (also realized that LaTeX is overkill for 90% of text processing but it does make one hell of a snazzy resume)
