I've recently been getting blue screen crashes on my new RX 480. I'm running an i3 until I can upgrade my CPU and I was wondering if a cpu that weak would cause the system to crash? I had it working fine yesterday and now today my pc crashes on every game I try play

I ran a benchmark test and noticed the card gets pretty hot and the fans get very loud before it crashes. Could the card be defective?

Does anybody see better battery life with a Chromium OS build like CloudReady? My HP Omen 15 gets 3 hours or so on Windows with everything gimped as fuck, or 2.5 hours of reasonable performance on Linux. Chrome OS would be fine for what I do for work, but that 2 hour ish battery life is a killer. Problem is I absolutely love everything else about this laptop, and can't find another that really suits me.

Tor (it's not all-caps) is pretty secure, actually, even against three-letter agencies. Problem is you have to observe proper opsec and treat everyone you talk to as if they're a federal agent, which most people can't keep up. You also have to disable javascript.

1) What is the best defrag software for windows 7?

I'm using defraggler, its fast and easy to use, but I previously used ultimate defrag, that lets you move the files around the HDD so you can put fast-access files on the faster parts of the disk.

I'm not sure it was a meme or not, but I didn't get any problem with that, also it was superb for when moving data around when making partitions in external HDDs.

2) is it normal after installing a big game (just installed witcher 3), I got some files fragmented into thousands of parts. My HDD smart data is all ok.

>>57362422
Just instal CCCP standard/full mode and config the filters manually. its pretty straightforward.

1.) All windows defrag software uses the same APIs as the built-in defragger uses. The kernel exposes them, it's the same thing with a different UI on it.

>>57362984
the files that get written to the drive might be fragmented due to the filesystem squeezing them into empty spaces instead of using contiguous free space. I have no idea if NTFS does this but some files do when they know they're on spinning-rust storage, so as to use the faster outer tracks before going to the slower inner ones.

So, what's a better deal, the RX 480 or Fury?

I'm going to be using a few monitors, but does four extra GB of RAM really matter?

By the way, a fury is going for cheap on Newegg right now, check it out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202186&cm_re=amd_fury-_-14-202-186-_-Product

Also, for whichever one is superior in price/performance, which one is the best one to get?

Or should I just get a 470 if I'm looking for price/performance?

Or, think about which would be of the most use to you until you can afford the others. If you finish the build, it can be used for college but isn't portable. If you get the thinkpad, it's good for portability at the cost of performance. Personally I wouldn't advise the phone because if you need music, thinkpad could play and be semi-portable, and if you need communication, messenger or an app emulator to use whatsapp/kik etc.
In the end we don't know your life or needs, just think it through homeslice.

I want to use synergy to share my mouse and keyboard between the host and guest OS (which uses VGA passthrough), without passing through a router (due to latency concerns). Basically, all I need is a way to map localhost:<some port> inside the host to localhost:<another port> inside qemu, and localhost:<yet another port> inside qemu to localhost:<some other port> inside the host, hopefully with a lightweight device so that there is little overhead.
I can see plenty of info about going host -> qemu, and I see references to the fact the opposite is doable (notably with a TAP device), but no details.

tl;dr they implemented a new system that actually replaces the video stream with the ads, it will take time for adblockers to catch up

I don't know how ads on Twitch work, but check the logger to see if it's loading anything from an ad site; if it is, you can click one of the columns to make a rule to filter it. If they're actually putting it in the video stream themselves as the other anon suggested, though, you're out of luck.

If your parents are cheap as fuck, Raspberry Pi Zero.

If your parents are poorfags, ODROID-C2 or a hard drive or SSD, PCIe preferred.

If your parents are cool, a new graphics card. An RX 470 is solid, but try getting an RX 480 or Fury if you can. The latter is on sale for $270 on Newegg RIGHT NOW.

If your parents are richfags and you aren't retarded, Dell Precision, Lenovo ThinkServer, or a 30" 1600p 16:10 Dell monitor.

If your parents are richfags and you ARE retarded, gayman bullshit.

If your parents have more money than sense, an expensive car because you're a faggot, or a money market account or mutual fund or stocks/bonds in your name - actually, I'd recommend that for all of the tiers.

If it's a special birthday, maybe a gun or two and some ammo that they transfer over to you, or a motorcycle and safety equipment.

I mean, what the fuck do you want? What did you have in mind? Or will this be enough?
>>
>>57364782
Oh yeah, and a shitload of Raspberry Pis would be awesome, too. Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, they're only limited to 5 per customer. If your parents are poor or cheap, get as many as they can afford.

Also, they could help you open a Scottrade account if they aren't poor. To the best of my knowledge, it's the best provider, and you need 500 dollars. Invest in some utilities or some shit.

I'm considering buying a new monitor and falling for the BenQ meme.
What is the difference between these 3 monitors (other than design and resolution) that make the price difference so big? Also would you recommend any other screen at 25/27 inch? Will probably use it in 1080p to be honest.

Didn't want to make a seperate thread for this so here it goes:

Looking for a simple work laptop. 12-13 inch screen. Only used for Internet, Office programs and a maybe a music player in the background. Would prefer something with an SSD so it feels rather snappy. Weight and battery life are important. Is this Dell XPS13 my best bet? Any other recs?

Alright then, How's their economic background? How much do they make a year?

Ask them for some Raspberry Pi Zeros, an ODROID-C2, hard drive, m.2 SSD and PCIe adapter, Dell Precision, 30" 1600p 16:10 Dell monitor, gun(s) and ammo, a motorcycle and safety equipment, money market account, mutual fund, stocks/bonds, or a kilo of silver/an ounce of gold.

Every time I right-click on a word that's misspelled, Firefox corrects it for me instead of giving me options.

How do I make it STOP DOING THIS SHIT

Do your own research on those models, it's all about the panel technologies, response times, etc. And yes, resolution.

If you're going to fall for any monitor-related meme, fall for the Dell one.

I don't really want to have to use the new settings app since it is missing a lot of stuff that I used frequently. That's different. You're confusing security with privacy. It's not that I don't want people to know these things, it's that there are very real consequences and threat of identity theft if I hand them over to random people.

Most of the privacy concerns I see posted around here do not carry the same imminent threat of consequences that what you are asking would.

You keep it secure by keeping it private.
>>
>>57367337
But how does letting Microsoft collect data on how you use Windows 10 make you less secure, for example? Certainly a lot of people here objected to the idea when it was revealed it was happening.
>>
>>57367350
Because once Microsoft has collected that information you have no control over it
If Microsoft's databases were compromised your data would be compromised as well.
>>
>>57367374
I guess this is theoretically true, but it requires first that your hypothetical adversary break into Microsoft's servers, and then that they sift through all of the millions of people's data to find pertinent stuff on you. And of course it also hinges on the fact that their telemetry actually had something highly secure rolled in with it, which I do not think it is really designed to do.

I'd agree that you might see a tiny reduction in security from allowing this, but for the average user it should be well within permissible bounds. Unless you're actually working with highly confidential info as part of your job or something I don't see why this would be such a big deal.

+-- 0.1-anon

cont.:

In my Python program I can run the svn info command like this:

import subprocess
p = subprocess.Popen("svn info %s/tags | grep \"Last Changed Rev\" | awk '{print $4}'" % repo_url, stdout=subprocess.PIPE, shell=True)
(rev_no, err) = p.communicate()

where repo_url is something like https://my.ser.ver/svn/svn_RepoOne.

Now how do I check out the appropriate revisions into ~/dev/, replacing any preexisting versions?

Adobe switched to that shitty subscription model and never really felt the same to begin with, but I've never really seen or heard of any competing or similar software out there. I'm really comfortable with Macromedia Flash 8 but it randomly crashes and costs me work between saves, and is so old I can't even buy a legit copy to my knowledge.

Grandma's "old" prebuilt pc started to have issues so we went ahead and bought an i3 6100 and a ASUS B150M-A D3 motherboard. Everything setup properly and booted fine. However for whatever reason it will not let me install windows onto the the SSD that was in the old pc (which had W10). It gives me a "Could not create partition or find existing partition". I have never had this issue installing when reinstalling windows. Every single time it told me it is going to create a windows.old and continues with the installation.

I am assuming I probably just need to reformat the SSD but then I would need to transfer all the shit off the SSD to my PC and then install windows and then copy all the shit back.

So, whenever Chrome is up and running, the audio on my computer (whether coming through headphones or my speakers) crackles, skips a bit, and sounds like it's a corrupt file.

For instance, if I'm listening to music through, say, MusicBee or whatever, it sounds perfect. When I launch Chrome, however, the audio begins to sound like I described above. When I close out Chrome? It stops.

>>
>>57374697
Nah, it copies the files just as they are, I think. I've had good success with DVDflick for windows. You can add multiple titles and get basic menu options for selecting them, if you need that. It's quite slow, though, since it has to re-encode everything to standard dvd. It also has a completely retarded gui, but again, free.
>>
>>57374725
Thanks, I'll check it out. With half the options for free being malware its a hassle finding legitimate programs.
>>
>>57374743
no malware, but just remember to change the titles in all the appropriate sub-menus. it persistently remembers every setting from your last session for some reason. wouldn't want to burn Zootopia DVD for your niece, and have the title say "another long dong deep in ass movie" when it goes to play.

It's not dumb, but unless you have a decent understanding of harmony and are very comfortable with your chosen software (I recommend Ableton Live, just torrent it), there's no point getting hardware. As a first exercise, download a recording program on your phone, record you making a bunch of random noises like tapping on tables or bouncing objects off shit, cut the sound up into clips with software like Soundforge (again, torrent it), and turn that into a beat. There are no rules on how to make music, and there are no guidelines.
