Got a Dell Latitude D620 for 25 dollars at local thrift store.
To this laptop i've added
>spare 320 gb hard-drive from previous laptop
>4 gb ddr2 memory ($20)
>Newer battery ($20)
>Core 2 Duo T7600 2.33 Ghz ($20)
>Windows 7 Ultimate (free)

Nice. I have a D830 I still use at work. The D series have IMO the best laptop keyboards Dell ever built.
I have a dell d420. I can't see why anyone would choose this over a thinkpad. The keyboard feels okay at best, layout is unusable, and the trackpoint is garbage. The only redeeming factor is its good build quality
Great! Now tear out everything that isn't soldered in, stick that and all that shit you just listed in a series fancy-looking aluminum/tin cases, and sell it at a 5-10x markup so you can trash that shit and buy something decent.

I would've preferred a thinkpad desu, but this was cheap enough that I don't really care too much.

is that the same ones in the xps m140's?
because if so i agree
Dell D630 here. This thing is ass at web browsing. You have to work around everything by using CLI clients for everything. GNOME runs like shit, but MATE runs fine.
If you want to use this thing, forget about web 3.0. It can handle 4chan and barely reddit. Tumblr will make it scorch. Also Windows 7 runs like shit on it.

Nice, I have a D610 and D620 that still work fine except for old batteries. what kind of thrift store did you go to, I kind want to check one out to see if I can find cheap computer stuff.

Serious question, what "thrift stores" are you going to that sell complete laptops/desktops?
I've been to several dozen thrift stores in my life, across a few states, and I've literally never seen anything close to an entire computer, let alone the parts to make one.

How did you even change the CPU?
Great now install Gentoo :DD
>pix related
how smooth does it run?
