How are there barely any options for thunderbolt to external pcie?
We literally have the technology all ready to go.

Even USB 3 took like 6 years to become mainstream. We still have usb 2.0 drives and HDD enclosures in stock because a lot of people still take them as the cheaper option.
2 years ago was when even the most basic laptops all picked up at least one usb 3.0 drive. There are still lga1151 boards with no front USB 3.0 headers and lga 1150 boards with no usb 3.0 at all.
