What advantages does DisplayPort have over DVI or HDMI?

All I see is that manufacturers don't have to pay an HDMI royalty fee (if there is no HDMI port at all), and DP monitors are generally more fucking expensive.

Nothing offers more bandwidth than DP, it's a better connector than either HDMI or DVI (not to mention DVI is deprecated as hell, it shouldn't even be an option anymore) and the royalty fee you already brought up.

Except since it's an open standard technology any chink factory can slap the cables together and they're usually dogshit. Making it hard to find actual good DP cables that don't cause issues.

But are you really connecting to a 7680×4320 monitor? Why would bandwidth be a contributing factor for choosing a DP monitor? Do you transfer data through the cable other than video? Would your GPU be able to support a high resolution through one cable?
