hey /g/, i'm a newfag when it comes to building pcs and stuff
what monitors and/or cables should i use to get the full experience using a GTX 1080?

I currently use the cheap 1440p Acer monitor from Amazon, it works pretty decent and I been playing The Witcher 3 at about 50-60fps, sometimes it still drops under 40.
COD Black Ops 3, solid 60 fps for second, nothing else.
I use the HDMI cable that came with the monitor, I believe I paid something along $280 when I got it.
I didn't want to go all the way into 4k since it still is outside of my budget and 1440p works great for me at the moment.

4k or 1440p@100+fps monitor, DP for cables.

Get a macbook pro and use its screen with adapters.
1440p, higher than 60Hz
You can't do 4K without dropping the settings a lot, and 1440p 60Hz is still easy for a 1080
1440p 144Hz would be the ideal monitor but a 1080 can't always hold that kind of framerate up at 1440p
My 1070 plays Witcher 3 at 1440p at 50-60fps (never seen it below 50), a 1080 could do more but you still might need to drop settings for 144hz
DisplayPort cable, HDMI is for scrubs and can't actually handle both high res and high rates

Dell DisplayPort cables are the best - this is the conclusion of a similar thread on /g/ from 2 months ago.
Lots of people explained here how they indeed had bad experience with other brands or no-name brands and had long term stable experience with dell ones - but they also sell them more expensively or they get shipped with your monitors.
