16 bit console music

SNES games could use their own sound bank with real instrument sounds and then use the SPU to modify these instrument sounds to get more range out of them.

It's why SNES sounds amazing compared to the Genesis, which just sound like a bunch of farts.

It depends on how well you understand Frequency Modulation synthesis, and yes, the YM2612 does make it hard since it limits you to 4 operators and only lets you use a sinewave as the waveform. Big boy FM is even harder to understand but allows for more room to create sounds like that laugh
