>tfw my overclocking days were over after the nforce 2 chipset came out
>tfw soldered potentiometers onto my abit mobo to get moar vram
nowadays i just want a pc that runs smoothly
>he fell for the overclocking meme

but its free performance!!1

Overclocking used to be about extracting better performance from standard parts.
Except that now Intel have jewed it up and you need to buy both more expensive K CPUs and Z mobos to even start to OC.
You might as well just save your money and effort and put the savings towards other parts of your build.

How long do you guys stress test for? I just picked a number and stress tested it for 8 hours. I want to bump up the number, but it takes too long.

Depends, what kind of stressing are you doing
For me it's as follows
>thermal stress (i.e. testing my coller is working properly etc)
Prime95 small FFTs for 2 hours
>system stability (basic)
I also use about 8 hours of IBT, that's fine
>system stability (extended/less-artificial)
I generally run handbrake doing HEVC encodes for ~24 hours while also using the computer for light duties when I need it

*cooler, woops
>>57337231
just run IBT on highest preset once or twice
I don't have the patience for anything more, I also most likely put in way too much voltage but it's been stable for 2 years now so what do I care

>>57337282
I'd be the same but what I usually do if it *seems* stable from some short runs of higher preset IBT like you've mentioned I can just leave longer benchmarks running while I'm at work and check for explosions when I get home
