Hi I'm in my twenties and work as an underwriter for an insurance company. For couple of years now I've been contemplating learning a programming language to switch into IT. I tried couple of courses online like SQL and Python. SQL seemed like something I can do. But idk what's the learning path coz its all theory how do I practice those codes ? I'm moving to Canada in a few months and would to have more options in terms of job opportunities. I can invest in learning programming language or any tech course which leads to employment like networking or support. Pls advise me what should i invest in and how do I go about it.
I have bachelor's in finance and accounting and a business degree too.

start here:
http://cs50.tv/2015/fall/
if that jams you up then go to edx and use the teaching aids or supplement with mit's intro course in python. If still jammed up python the hard way and this:
http://computerscience1.tv/2011/spring/
Once you complete that learn this maths:
traditional route through calc i maybe calc ii
(try khan academy for lower level shits or ocw.mit.edu for anything you can't find at khan or udemy or edx or whatever hire a tutor if you get jammed up)
matrix algebra,
linear algebra,
discrete math for computer scientists
(if you can only do one do this one)
then do the data structures
then do some higher level coursework, (project based courses in software integration or design)
add a few more courses at that higher level and you're ready for grad work in cs lol.
Start working toward fizzbuzzing and read through all those mastering the technical interview books.
Good luck.

Thanks. One more thing is Python the best bet for someone with my background ? I mean are there more easy to do courses or languages to learn besides Python.
