Okay and is it time consuming to learn it and are there any tips to learn it faster

Either Haskell or Perl, depends on your style. I'd give both a try if I were you, see which sticks.
>>
>>57302042

Easiest to do what? What do you want to create? What is your long term goal?

If all you're doing is fucking around, guys like me started with BASIC and assembly on 8 bit machines. With a simple machine like that, it's easy to get it do do "something" for instant feedback.

So I guess use some sort of interpreted language. Maybe within a virtual machine or emulator. Go find a used Commie 64 or TI/99?

Linus Torvalds literally started on a Vic 20.

Wow Haskell or Perl? For a beginner language? I guess i can see Haskell, but why Perl? Why not Python or Ruby to begin with?

Most people start a pornography website as their first project. They're pretty simple and make some money. Google around to see who still provides content, but I'd stick with the image sites for now - they're decently easy to make and you don't have to worry about video streaming.
>>
>>57302100
After doing some OO and imperative programming Haskell feels like a pain in the ass to me, idk why functional programming will be a good first choice to start.

Who do you think compiled the lists? probably people with equal or greater knowledge than /g/ posters.

we are not programming gods, now gtfo to google.

Thx guys

All that whitespace bullshit? Come on.

Also, I think you mistyped "Rust" and typed "Ruby" (a dead language) instead. But yes, I agree, Rust is a pretty awesome starting language too.

Follow-up

They used to teach high-schoolers Pascal back in the 80s.

And you can still get it.

>why Pascal

Because there is a /ton/ of code out there written in Borland Turbo Pascal and Delphi for programming examples.

>why not C

Because it's too cryptic for newbies. The argument might be that newbies have nothing to un-learn, but that's bullshit and Dijkstra was wrong.

A Pascal interpreter:

http://npascal.sourceforge.net/

>perl

Just... no.

131 million people reach the age of 18 every year on this planet and it's increasing exponentially. Yet you wonder why people ask the same thing like it the same people using the internet for years on end.

What are you a fucking pleb?

brainfuck you only need to learn 8 characters

You're a fucking idiot

Python is easy but don't use it as a first, you'll get lazy. Try something a little more rigorous like Java or C++ imo.
>>
Start with Haskell. If you can't wrap your head around Monads and Arrows within the first week, you're not cut out to be a programmer.

After that, move on to C.

If you are to accept one piece of advice OP let it be this:

Go here right now and start learning to program:

https://www.codecademy.com/learn/python

You are the type that is going to spend literally weeks (or months) "researching" and doing nothing about it, somehow fearing you will 'learn the wrong language' or something like that.

Code-Academy is somewhere you can go RIGHT NOW to learn Python (a great language).

Now for the important part:

AFTER YOU LEARN ONE LANGUAGE IT WILL BE VERY EASY TO LEARN OTHERS.

So don't be afraid, just get going.

Literally right now just go and start learning.

https://www.codecademy.com/learn/python
>>
>>57304002

don't fucking do this.

the site, and especially the python section, is fucking broken, and the order in which it teaches you shit is retarded. the pacing is slower than anyone who is actually capable of programming would want and goes the wrong direction.

code-academy is fucking shit.
>>
>>57304002
> Python
> great language

Why are Python fags so delusional? It is objectively one of the most poorly designed languages in existence. It is every bit as bad as PHP and Javascript.
>>
>>57304023
>>57304015

It's a fine language and a fine sight to learn about programming. Responses like this are going to cause OP to just keep researching and not learn shit.

I learned Visual Basic as my first language and that is absolute shit, but because I actually used it as an opportunity to understand programming learning other languages came easy.

By the time OP is done with this thread he could be done with the Python course on there almost.

if that so post something useful then or shut up you moron
