Is Github (or any other independent source code hosting site) financially viable without advertising?
Are there enough people paying for private repos to subsidize all of the public ones?
What will happen once all the VC sugardaddy money is gone?
Sure, you can sell userdata and private code to the highest bidder.

My private repo is 7 USD per month and I barely use it. There are probably tons of people like me.
It's fucking code man, not images or videos. It doesn't take up much disk space.

>paying for a private repo
Are you legally retarded?
>>57298408
Unless you have a company and plan on selling that code, why not make that repo public? Or use Bitbucket, which gives you free private repos if you have 5 or less people contributing to it?

not him, but i used to use private repos for projects that i was tinkering with that weren't quite ready.
for a little while when i was writing academic papers privately and then later publishing the finished versions when they were accepted to conferences, i would use a private repo.
i'm aware of bitbucket and other sites. github is a more polished experience. more people have github accounts so if i include them as a collaborator on a project i don't also have to ask them to register a new account.
don't use this sjw-infested site, use bitbucket.

gitlab you fucking imbecile

>i'm aware of bitbucket and other sites.
funny calling me an imbecile considering you're not very good at reading
>>57299134
>i'm aware of the solution
>I still pay like a retard
retard
>>57299160
you're making it easier for me because i don't really have to type much, just copy and paste subsequent parts of the post:
>github is a more polished experience. more people have github accounts so if i include them as a collaborator on a project i don't also have to ask them to register a new account.
but you could've had that answer if you got the help you apparently need with reading comprehension

Gitlab users, everybody!

Most people I know of have both Bitbucket and Github accounts. Paying $7 a month for not mildly inconveniencing people still seems retarded.
