apple might be the first to have removed the function keys to do it, though
>>

I know this is a troll thread, but an adaptive screen on the keyboard layout of a laptop is so unoriginal that a shitty fucking gaming company named Razer came out with a similar product years ago.

I see what you're doing, and I endorse this message.

It's innovative, I'll give them that. It's also really, really dumb. They have removed the function keys, including the escape button which is quite a bold move (read: fucking retarded) and replaced it with a touchscreen that maybe can be sorta useful sometime.

Nope. Lenovo did it on the X1 Carbon a few years ago. I stupidly bought one when they came out, but the idea is utter shit, you can't give those X1's away nowadays.

Y550
Circa 2009
Same basic idea, but without the OLED.

Plus, the Y550 didn't lose features or cutout it's keyboard to add it.

Surface dial is interesting, but I don't think I'd call it innovative. Creative, and unique, sure. Innovative, no.
>>
Neither are great. At least microsoft is trying to be innovative, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that people are going to use Apple's keyboard a lot more than that dial.

A vast majority of the dial's functionality could've been done with classic pinching (which, to be fair, Apple did invent)

A touch command to bring up a dial display in the software. That would've been innovative. That is likely close to what we'll have in the future (yes, like Minority Report).
Not this.

The gayest thing about Apple's touch keyboard is the fact that they apparently aren't giving developers much creative license to play with it. No stock tickers etc.

I have the G510s which is the "newer" model of that.
The stats for games were complete shit, like League of Legends would display how much total gold you earned, instead of how much you had to spend.
The only useful thing was the Clock, but unless you had Logitech software eating up your CPU, it would just display "G510s".
I bought the keyboard for the 18 macros, and because of how crammed and small they were, I hardly used them. And they made the keyboard rake up an entire fucking desk.

Basically all this led me to get a simple, non-backlit, Tenkeyless, mechanical keyboard. Fuck rubber domes, fuck gamer shit.

i think they're just trying to say it's been done before and yet again Apple just take something that's been does and does it better.

seems like Apple avoids being first to to make something new these days and wait for others to fail then make it better.

wonder how well they'd do if they were first to make something in this current year or future.

The touch bar will get more traction, since developers can expect it to be there. On the MBP at least, though I figure we'll soon see keyboards with them built in. The Dial is a separate device to purchase, and I imagine when MS developed it, mostly had their own hardware in mind. I understand it'll work with existing Surface machines, but non MS touch screens? And if they can use it, can they physically handle it?
Otherwise non-MS machines will just have a jog dial, and that's been around for ages.

To be honest I think that dumb round cylinder is a terrible idea, who the fuck wants to have to use that? They should just have a custom spinning movement with 2 fingers which brings up the same color picker that that gaudy microsoft buttplug does, unless the cylinder doubles as an LTE hotspot or something
>>
>>57289162
Eh, Apple has never really been the first. The iPod wasn't the first MP3 player, the iPad wasn't the first tablet, the Apple Watch obviously not the first smartwatch, etc. They've always been the ones to see future trends and design them in a great mass marketable way (the Watch seems like a misstep though).
>>
Apple realise that touchscreen laptops and convertibles are fucking stupid. Instead they give the function row full customisability to the user letting it do much more things while also being able to fully represents function keys at all times if you wish.

That Microsoft thing is a dumb gimmick for a device that isn't even going to ship more than 200 units.

The surface studio is aimed at pros so the dial is for tuning thing that would be too precise for the pinch gesture.

Both are overpriced trash but I'll take the bait.

You don't have to use the stupid wheel/dial/fag button thing if you don't want to. The iShit has the emoji bar built in. That retard bar and lack of escape key means that installing and using other operating systems or loaders (like GNU/Linux and GRUB) will be more difficult. The Mac also has a ridiculously large track pad. I don't know why but the only logical explanation I can think of is that it's for drawing. The Microshit one has a touchscreen that you draw on directly. Also the Mac still has no lightning port but has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple is inconsistent with their products. They're a bad joke and so is anyone who buys that horse shit. Micropenis wins this round.

Anything that's first is usually shit, its not often something totally new is amazing. Apple works on these new things behind the scenes for years before the public ever see them to not have the 'first' issues.

the function keys are still there kid, press a button and they return, don't press a button and you instead have a touch bar with designed inputs, instead of mapping things to different keys.

I use a Windows laptop myself, and the only time I've used a function key was F1, F12, and sometimes F5, since I enabled fast boot I've never needed F1/F12, and I have F5 remapped to ctrl+shift+r, it's been like this for the past 5 years, AKA, i don't use function keys

I'm jealous of the touch bar, my laptop ha da capacitive bar with volume buttons, wifi card toggle, and two that I never botherd to learn what they do.
