I run Debian Linux, the packages are way too old and I have to compile a lot of things from source.

I don't think I'd want to combine that with a kernel that has even worse package support.

I don't get this meme. GNU userland may not be the easiest source to understand and some may not like the license but GNU userland is the fastest and most correct implementation of basic UNIX utilities there is
