Alright /g/entoomen, what's the best desktop environment that's lightweight (or at the very least performs well) but also good looking/minimal and full featured?
I'm tired of running dwm/awesome/openbox and managing the fifty million extra packages to provide hot plugging storage, GTK themes, icon sets, etc., etc.
xfce
xfce or mate

Maybe it's just because I don't have enough time to play around with more than a few DE's, but is there any simple way to unfuck the "clutter" in xfce's taskbar?
Plasma

unless you're still on a single core pentium, pretty much every de is lightweight by todays specs, so check them all out and go with the one you find comfy
Thanks for posting btw and I'm playing around with xfce now in a VM.

I have to admit I like plasma so far, but for some reason urxvt simple shows a big pink window whereas it works in openbox/etc.
LXDE

Plasma 5.8
haters gonna hate

gnome works really well
but about being lightweight ... the only computers I use that aren't headless have 32 and 16 GB of ram and fairly powerful processors

What clutter are you talking about?

I worked my way through it pretty quick, things like frames, extra buttons, notification icons, etc.
