The headband is, the plastic hinges where the headband folds into and the one-sided swivel connection of the headband to the ear cups are not. The plastics in these parts are a little fragile but they will easily last more than two years if you don't throw them around.

Yeah but the Fostex headphones don't isolate that well and leak sound, the only other headphone I could recommend based on your list is the NVX XPT100 which would probably look too 'cheap' for someone with that budget.

Currently have a pair of Fischer audio consonance which sound pretty damn good for the price with comply tips. I've had SE215 I enjoyed but its been a decade since I've had those and I forgot what drew me to them. I'm a huge fan of comply tips but I'm tired of paying for new tips all the time. Do CIEMs give similar benefits as comply tips, i.e. more snug thus better sound, less fatigue, louder etc.? If so Customart music one fits my budget better but I might be willing to pay for the music two. Is the separate woofer/tweeter worth it or is the music one good enough for the money?

Sennheiser HD 598

I had HD 598 for 4 years and was pretty satisfied, but in time they became very worn off so I decided to get something new. I want same open headphones but this time preferably with a bit more bass. I tired to research and my eyes stopped on Philips Fidelio X2 and Sennheiser HD600.

Philips are a bit cheaper and looks to be those 'fun' and bassy headphones, they also seems to work fine without any additional set up. Sennheisers are bit pricier but seems to be more neutral and clear to details, some people say that amp is required but I've found a lot posts saying that they work just fine with macpro and I am not the guy who will crank up his headphones to maximum volume possible anyways.

>Do CIEMs give similar benefits as comply tips, i.e. more snug thus better sound,
No.
Foam tips can improve fit in practical situations, but don't seal quite as well as solid rubber/silicone sleeves under ideal circumstances.
Also, CIEMs tend to fall short of the top universals in sound isolation.
>less fatigue
If you mean treble harshness, no. Comply foam is better at that, and the way that custom IEMs are often made could make them worse. That is, they may preclude the use of acoustic filters to control treble peaks.
>Music One vs. Two
It's not a matter of better or worse, they're quite different to start with. Music One is close to the Ety HF5, Music Two is something else.
I think you might want more bass than what either model will deliver.

>>57269413
>targe curves for something i'm working on

I recently upgraded from my AKG k7xx to the new Fostex T50RP mk3. Many say this headset is impossible to drive, but I'm currently running it with a Fostex HP-A3 at 25% volume, and it runs just fine. Am i doing something wrong? Am i missing something?

Many people don't know electronics. Or sound, for that matter.
>Am i doing something wrong? Am i missing something?
If you don't have a problem, then you don't. That's about all there is to it.
>amps capable of delivering 1000mW RMS
If it needed more power, that just makes it insensitive. Nothing else is implied.
Power into a load is dependent on the impedance of the load itself, so statements like those aren't helpful.
Also, RMS is used to relate AC voltage/current to power. That's already given in terms of power.

>I'd need an amp and dac. People said modi, then modi 2, then Uber, all the sudden this setup is costing me $700. Any better ideas or just spend the money?
Don't. Realistically you can get good DAC/amp combos for ~100

One of the best is the Micca Origen+. A lot of features and the ability to have 5V DC in is good. ~$100 USD on amazon
If you still want a little more of a step-up, you might want to look at a Schiit Stack. More than enough for pretty much anything that isn't planar. $200 dollars

Hell, I make do with a 5 dollar PCM2704 DAC and an DIY O2 Amp powering my collection of shit. Cost me ~$55 USD and some time. 90% as good as the setups where people are spending 500+ in terms of raw sound quality.

People who are spending 400+ on DACs and Amps are the kinds of people who have a large collections of headphones and are spending a lot more on higher end gear, or are looking for a one and done 'final solution', or they just straight have the money to do so without any real care.

What kind of vidya? CSGO or overwatch or something that relies on imaging and soundstage? Not amazing but not bad. For anything else? Hell yes.
Look at NVX XPT-100/Brainwavz HM5 if you want more soundstage and imaging. Not as much bass though.

Looking to upgrade my sennheiser hd 428 as the sound is already a bit dead and wires are damaged.
Tried some alternatives in Saturn(you can just go and try headphones) but did not find any good, balanced, clear Headphones.
Only didn`t try A-T m30x.

I bought the Audio Technica ATH-M20x.
Now that I have them, they somehow sound flat. Why? Am I doing something wrong? Do I just have to get used to them? Honestly, I think even my 20 bucks in-ear ones.

I was used to the super soft DT990 and the 598s are the exact opposite - very hard and rigid. The headband and the cups kind of just sit on my head rather than slowly adjusting to the head's shape and I can't really get them to fit without hurting my ears or head after a while.

I dunno how to describe it really but I didn't really feel any kind of resistance from the dt 990 at all even if i had it on my head for 15+ hours one day while with 598s my head hurts after just an hour or two

Probably not i tried a cotton sock before this, basically the thicker and stiffer the material you use the more trebble it ends up having. if you use a super cushy material it will (absorb the treble). This is just my own experience of what happens when doing things like this, first i wrapped the existing foam in duck tape and it was harsh if i kept it on for more than an hour then i put in a new sock instead of foam and it was muffled, but comfy and others could easily hear what you were listening to, the current mod is not bad or good, but it gets the job done.

Is there a tube amp under $200 that's good for the HD 650? I see the DarkVoice on Massdrop for $200 exactly, but that thing is a big guy (for me) and apparently gets as hot as lava.

I was looking at the Little Dot 1+, but looking around it may not be a good choice for the HD 650.
>>
>>57284894
Look for OTL amps.
>>
>>57284894
>but looking around it may not be a good choice for the HD 650.
Where do you read this bs? You don't "pair" headphones and an amplifier. All of those would be the opposite of what I'd want for headphones because of high output impedance, inefficient design and likely much worse performance all around than the best competition.

>>57284986
To make the already warm sounding HD 650 even more warm with 120 Ohm Zout?
>>
Would you recommend a Valhalla 2 to drive a 62 Ohm headphone? According to Schiit website, Valhalla 2 has 3.5 Ohm output impedance at low gain.
>>
>>57285242
That won't have any meaningful impact on the response even if the 62 Ohm nominal headphone had a highly varying impedance. Which model? Just look at the impedance as a function to frequency measurement on IF and you'll see what kind of an impact it theoretically might have.
>>
>>57285301
AKG K702. Its impedance is pretty linear.
>>
>>57285374
Yeah nothing to worry about.
>>
>>57285415
Since Valhalla is an OTL amp, would it make sound the heaphone better? Or would it just be an increment in volume?
>>
>>57285449
OTL doesn't have any correlation with sound, it's a design topology. High output impedance is often the problem(or an intended design) of OTL headphone amplifiers but Valhalla does the opposite with its very moderate Zout. Both better and an increment in volume are relative terms. Depends what is the comparison.
>>
>>57285505
In comparison to the E10K?
>>
>>57285545
Valhalla has more output power, better build and I truly doubt there will be any audible impact. FiiO reports better specs in terms of harmonic distortion and SNR but with much more simple criteria than Schiit. They will both perform adequately unless your load is extreme in some way which the K702 is not.

I don't know what amp to buy. I'm interested in tube amps and people on places like headfi say the 6xx's sound better with tube amps than solid states. I know audiophiles are generally insane, so I'm confused.

I could get something like the Objective2 or Magni 2 if they're better than similarly priced tube amps like the Little Dot or Vali 2. But I kind of just want to try one even if it's not all that different.

There's nothing special about tube amps, if you're hearing a difference on one, it's gonna be subtle and due to its high output impedance. Yes but in audio, more expensive does not necessarily mean it's better; there is no difference in sound quality from a $100 neutral amp vs a $500 neutral amp. Spending for the sake of spending, especially in this hobby, is stupid.

By the time the amplifier performs well beyond human audible limits, you could take more into consideration than the performance alone and see value in it. Objective 2's noise floor is hard to beat regardless of price but I think there are plenty nicer headphone amplifiers if you value more things than just raw performance figures.

As cheap as possible, as in I don't think she has ever tried anything more expensive than like 40€, nor does she have the budget to try something more expensive, upper limit is like 70€, but the cheaper the better, as they won't last more than a year anyway

Around 100e/dollarino mark there are a lot of good options already. If you choose wisely, there are a wide variety of worthwhile models up to around 300-400e price point. You should know that audio quality doesn't really scale with prices. Spending a lot doesn't guarantee quality and many options come down to preference and use case. Best research well and fill out the form.

I dislike thinking in "upgrades" as so much comes down to what everyone likes. What's your opinion on the sound of those headphones you use now? They are quite different to each other. What about comfort or form factor? Do you need isolation? Are you looking to replace both of them?

So is the O2 more than powerful enough for the 650?
>>
>>57294841
Yes easily. How loud they get exactly depends on the gain options and signal level fed into it. HD 650 isn't that insensitive. I can power mine from my motherboard's headphone jack but opted to get O2 regardless.
>>
>>57294813
the erpt are my everyday ones and are actually my second pair. I keep coming back to ety's for the isolation and clarity. I rarely use the sr80's but not from a lack of liking them just that they tend to be uncomfortable and feel cheap.

That really depends on durability. Nothing over 200 reais (70 dollars) if it's going to last just 2 years.

Maximum, thanks. Actually, as long as it has huge cups and doesn't squeeze my head, it's fine. I use glasses, so squeezing does not only hurts, it CUTS my skin. Weight or appearance is not an issue.

>Preferred tonal balance
Maybe bassboosted, since I'm an eletrofag, but I also listen to all sorts of music and sometimes try to produce it. So a flat balance wouldn't be out of the question.

>Past headphones
http://www.philips.co.in/c-p/SHM1900_93/pc-headset/specifications
Philips SHM1900 (50~70 reais). I've used this same model for almost 7 years now, buying a new one every time it breaks (its lifespan being between 1,5 and 2,5 years and me being somewhat clumsy and tugging on its jack all the time).
I also had a Philips SHL3060 (70 reais) for 3 days, but it hurt so bad I gave it to my brother and bought another SHM1900 instead. Sound quality was practically the same.

--

As for USB DACs - I'm worried my current laptop doesn't even have decent sound output to begin with and that having fancy phones would be a waste of money. Could making a combo of DAC + cheaper phones work better? In this case, the more portable, the better, as I already have a mouse, a tablet and a second monitor plugged-in.

I'd have to lower my phone budget for that, so the quality gain should compensate it.
I might as well save and buy an Audio Interface later, I intend getting a keyboard in the future. Does it cover the need for a DAC?

>>
>>57296933
That would be evident as a lack of volume but both of those headphones are sensitive enough to be driven from any output designed for headphones. Now if the headphone output is absolute shit in quality such as capacitor coupled or with extremely high output impedance(which wouldn't really have an effect on either one of the headphones) there might be some fault to the device driving them. This would've plagued the previous pair too. Plugging them into another device like a mobile phone to see if anything dramatically changes solves this issue. The JVCs are certainly a more colored pair and being used to a pair of headphones can make the rest sound off or downright bad. Nothing new here. I'd suggest getting a pair of headphones that you have auditioned as well as learning to use a parametric equalizer.

No, I was impressed by its measured performance, especially the directivity and waveguide performance which is quite unheard of in these price points. It's extremely flat on axis and the DI is smooth. The simple tone controls are expected from studio monitors to further help them integrated into a listening room but to have this kind of performance at such a low price point with good availability is unmatched. I haven't watched a single Youtube review on it and I don't own them but for how much they go for, they are great.

Literal garbage

I'm looking for a comfy intro pair, but I have an odd problem. I wear glasses, and my head is goddamn huge. Like, comedically large. I stand behind people in photos so my head doesn't look photoshopped. I put on normal sized hats and they look like doll clothing.

I've never owned a pair of headphones that didn't creak in protest as I put them on, and with my glasses and the constantly too-tight fit, they become uncomfortable after even short listening. I want good sound, of course. But comfort for long sessions is an even higher priority. I want to be able to listen to an album and not have a headache and dents in my temples by the end. Save me from this suffering.

TL;DR: my head is fuckhuge. Recommend big, comfy, entry-level headphones.
