Add 4GB 1600MHz RAM ($15)
Upgrade to used 83XX CPU ($100)
Buy cooler unless you get a Wraith with the CPU ($0-30)
Buy 240GB A-DATA SSD ($60)
Get the 6GB 1060 if you don't want to upgrade for a while. ($250)

Sell 7770/50 for $75, 4300 for $50

Total: $325

Can you really not save up more money than that? That stuff is already old and outdated as fuck.

Alternatively a used second or third generation Intel CPU with a used GPU like a 960 would utterly destroy that APU shit.

Well better than anything else out there especially for playing vydia, I think that iGPU on that APU is pretty underrated.

I don't want used parts blowing up my build.

i3 sucks even more though because of the shit iGPU. I don't want to wait for zen desu.

In fact I just play to get an Rx 480 later on next year, turn off the iGPU, and play DX12 games.

Unless you're still under your parents that's a tiny amount of money

>i3 sucks even more though because of the shit iGPU
Yeah, but it can play LoL or whatever indie games you want like Papers Please. The point is that the CPU does not suck, and you actually have an upgrade path

>In fact I just play to get an Rx 480 later on next year
An FM2+ socket mobo / CPU will severely bottleneck anything past a 380 because of PCIe lanes.

tl;dr you're a moron
>>
>>57256064
you're basically throwing $300 out the window for something that can barely play the newest games on low settings when you could get something used for almost the same that would be 2-3 times faster.

and you would obviously get a fucking dedicated gpu with the i3 you tard.

but whatever, your money, i cant stop you.

PS. only the PSU can blow up the rest and that is one part you should not skimp on.

Can't find the exact source I remember (video), I was looking into budget build APUs / Athlons.

DX12 lightens the load on the CPU and uses more cores (up to eight). DX11 already uses four cores

Anyway you'll have absolutely zero upgrade potential with an FM2+ socket, in addition to the bottleneck

>What's the minimum wattage PSU I should get for this, and what would I need if I ever decided to get another 480 for crossfire in the future?

maybe, but i set a budget on this one - parts budget wasn't gonna go past $200 Canadian on this one (low income at the moment due to being unable to work due to advanced arthritis, im awaiting surgery to help a few things), and that included the value for parts that were hand-me-down or salvage. The stock cooler is 'ok' for now, but with the extra fans i added to the case (putting them on a switch for 'game mode' because they sound like a jet engine together), and the cooler i have on the way will work well with all of these fans running together to keep things cool.

Unless you plan on rendering you might as well save some money and buy an overclock able i5.

Also drop the 1050, they perform pretty eh and if you need a budget card buy a used one or an rx460.

The mobo you have is fine, no need to go all out. CPU cooler can be had for $28 for a basic cooler master which will serve you just fine, but you can go higher if you want.

Coming from a guy with a closet FULL of fans from various manufacturers. I currently use pic related. On par with Noctua in quality. Available in 120mm and 140mm for $12/$15. They don't HAVE to be noctua $30 poo fans but Cooler Master fans are garbage usually. Even their sickleflow line

Their jetflo and Silencio fans not included in the shit list. I have one of the PWM silencios on my CPU cooler and its awesome. $32 each though.

drop. Spread is redundant as the pressure from a properly installed cooler will spread it for you. Spreading it on your only creates the potential for thin or uncovered spots. A drop about the size of a pea in the center. Or a line about the size of a grain of rice in the center. Been using for years without a problem.

Arctic Silver 5 and IC Diamond are my go to brands. IC diamond lately has been my go to for everything because unlike AS5, it's non-conductable so it can be used on GPUs too.

i7 hands down for rendering. Clock it as high as safely possible to make up for lack of cores. Whatever program you use to render, I sincerely hope it supports OpenCL or Cuda acceleration because I use Sony Studio Movie Suite (Poor mans sony vegas) and it only uses CPU threads. its fine if you can stand GAMING slapped on the southbridge heatsink. Just another generic red/black themed motherboard. Caters to the exact type of people who buy it. Also REALLY depends on how much you're getting it for. I got the ASUS ROG ranger for $180 when the Pro Gamer board was $150. For $30 (pennies if you consider how important the board is and how long you'll be keeping it) it was worth getting the better board.

Really wish asus would bring more styling from the WS Series boards to consumer stuff. I mean just look at this bad motherfucker.
>>
>>57259622
what is confusing about this?

A 6700k is inferior to a (hexa|octa|deca|dodeca)core in this application. He is recommending OCing to help compensate for that
>>
>>57259619
Yeah
>>
>>57259600
oh and I forgot to mention in >>57259636

The VRMs are of lesser quality, there are less VRMs overall, the heatsink covering the VRMs is less efficient. Also although the BIOS controlling that board looks a lot like the ROG BIOS, you're missing a dedicated LLC controller and overall your potential for overclocking and underclocking headroom might be reduced due to the motherboard throttling at the VRMs.

Not a huge deal though. I got my 6700k still stock in my ranger but managed to still be prime95 stable with only 1.050v compared to the 1.2v the chip defaults to.

yeah but were talking about the z170 i5 and the i7 not the x99 stuff.

I guess the i7 does it in just 100 seconds less at stock speeds.

Though I found this:
https://www.blender.org/manual/render/cycles/gpu_rendering.html
The GPU does faster rendering for the program I would be using.
http://blenchmark.com/gpu-benchmarks

I think it would be best to go for an 4.0GHz OC i5 and a decent GPU like a 1060 6gb which is only a couple seconds slower than a much more expensive 1070.
>>
>>57259713
that's not terrible. About average considering the ROG stuff seems to start at $200 now. Go ahead. Haven't heard anything bad about the board. Seems to be the perfect board for those looking for standard no frills use. Seen reviews of people hitting 4.5ghz running stock voltage and settings on their 6700k's.

Also Asus board in general seem to have an issue running top speed RAM. My Ranger board REFUSED to run ram that was 4000mhz out of the box. Even turning it down to 3200mhz (max officially supported ram speed) would refuse to post. Ended up just getting 32GB 2400mhz because the extra speed was nothing more than ball grabbing rights for me anyway.

PSU is the one part where you should never cheap out. That said, there isn't much point getting overkill PSU, either. 450W is enough unless you're planning to get a 250W GPU(or a better GPU and x99 135W CPU), 550W is enough for pretty much any single-GPU system and there isn't any point going much higher unless you're planning a multi-card setup.

Noctua is just top notch quality and they know it, therefore they charge you more. Other cooling options are just as good.
The only thing Noctua realy does better than others is the fan quality and coolers like NH-D14/15 or NH-U14S, those literally blow the competition away.

As Amd-fag, I would wait for january for zen/vega 10,but I don't know if I can resist 2 months without something to do( I'm working on it,like a small part time job).

>Then go to Noctua and Corsair websites and check the manuals.

I did and thats what I said in my post I linked - Corsair official site says that max size for cooler for 200R is 165mm, while reviews claims that it is 160mm instead. NH-U14S have 165mm, 12S - 158mm.

Thats why I asked here.

It would be pretty stupid to buy a cooler and then realize that it wont fit in your case, right?

Then i'm blind. If it says 165 go for the U12S, you have to count in the mobo and stand-offs. How much is the Corsair 200R where you live? If you haven't bought it, can you switch to something like an R5 or Nanoxia DS3?

Still kinda going back and forth in my head about whether to get a 1060 or an RX480. They're both kinda close in price and it looks like their performance in games is very close to the point they themselves go back and forth on which one is better for certain games.

But which company should I go with though? I can only remember hearing to stay away from Msi because of faulty heatsinks or something.

Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, Gainward and EVGA are all good brands. Especially the first three. I'd recommend Asus Strix if it isn't too expensive, it runs quiet and cool.

>I can only remember hearing to stay away from Msi because of faulty heatsinks or something.
That's just some random rubbish. All brands do sometimes ship defective cards, that's just how this business works. RMA them and wait for another one to be delivered. MSI's Gaming X cards are pretty good, although a bit expensive too,
>>
>>57263953

I had the same problem few weeks ago, in the end bought Sapphire Nitro+ version fo RX480 instead of 1060, because of said similar performance, a bit more VRAM and because Nvidia pissed me off enough in the past with their drivers (I had enough of doing research around the net about which is the latest stable version for my card, because Nvidia shit on all models not being the newest and both my GTX 660 and previously GTX 460 were experiencing problems with latest drivers - GTX460 in form of frequent BSODs, some people reported even physical damage to their cards). With AMD at least I can saftely update from time to time.

>Jeezus, has it really gotten that bad with Nvidia?

I might just had been unlucky.

But still, as owner of GTX660 and Windows 7, I had to avoid any newer updates than 362.0, because of possible problems a lot of people were reporting on their own forums.

As owner of 1060, you could avoid this problem... for a time, until they would release 2060 or something.

As for Brands, in case of RX480, MSI reused the same cooling solution as with Nvidia cards, so, while being really quiet, it doesnt use its full potential at all (because it was designed with GTX in mind, not RX).

Sapphire is a company that specialize with AMD cards, at the other hand.

As for temperatures and noise, I wouldnt call my Nitro+ too noisy, but it can be heard sometimes. As for temperatures, it does start at 25C at idle, then slowly rise to 50C and stays around that. When playing video games, it never went above 65C so far, but according to Sapphire, 75C is it normal working temperature.

Once, however, it went 78C out of studden on idle, while Windows 7 disabled Aero - I had no idea what was going on, so I restarted PC. It never happened again, but still, made me worry. At the other hand, it could be related to how I simply ran sysprep on 6 years old Windows 7 installation and moved to new PC, instead of making clean install.

Just wanted to be honest.

Once overhauled I'm dropping all those parts into a beige case and buying a smaller PSU and cheaper HDD and using those bits as a sleeper/LAN party build.

>Emulator PC/LAN party TF2 Prop Hunt/File Server
>Was also babby's first build, changed very little
Xion Onyx Green
Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
WD Blue 640GB (new)
8GB DDR2 667 RAM GSkill
Stock CPU Cooler
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz Quad Core
ATI Radeon HD4850
Powered by a Coolmax 600W PSU
Windows 7
Also a lot of green UV reactive cable sheathing and a pair of UV Cold Cathode tubes, and tons of ricey LEDs. I re-built it a while ago in the spirit of a 2008-style "cool computer" with the big side window, cold cathodes, LED lights, all that jazz. I'm pretty fond of it.

Anyone interested in pics of either? nobody probably gives a shit.

A good upgrade for the system would be a nice cheap SSD. That will give that system a boost in speed.

>Is cannonlake going to be able to used on z170?
Very unlikely. Kaby Lake will, but i think Intel will jew you with Cannon Lake. Therefore drop to B150 if you don't want Kaby Lake.

>Therefore drop to B150
Not necessarily true, considering he could get an unlocked i7 later and have a great CPU if he sticks with the Z170.
>>

Look at a cheaper case. Maybe the new Phanteks P400? Roughly half the price and looks decent (youtube for reviews)

Also upgrade the SSD to something bit bigger with the money saved?

There you go..

Gentleman, no need for the bashing. Raw specs don't highlight performance, performance results highlight performance.

Sure, you could buy a (used) Skylake or Kaby Lake i7 later, but considering he asked about Cannon Lake i think B150 is the best option.
Personally i'm waiting for Zen to get a hopefully cheap quad/octacore for work and occasional gaming (Skyrim, TW:Shogun II, LoL, WoT, .. ) and get a strong Cannon Lake after i finished college.

I wanted a build that I won't have to upgrade for a few years at least.
How'd I do?

I already got the case( bought during the prime day)

Why overpriced mobo
>>

Cpu cooler is shit, NEX power supplies have mixed reviews, 750w is overkill anyway. If you are gaming only, you absolutely do not need 32gb ram. Games are just barely starting to get to using 8gb. Ram is probably the easiest part to install, do just get 2x8gb for now, install another 2x8gb later if you need to.

Pic related is my current PC specs. It was my first build a few years ago and still runs fine, but I am starting to itch for an upgrade and want to build a new one from scratch to fix some rookie errors I'm unhappy with on my current PC.

Here is my part picker list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/TKtrcc

Can I get some feedback on it? Areas I can improve or save money for the same performance?

I play some high end graphical games but don't really plan on overclocking. The monitor I didn't put much time into choosing. Should I upgrade from 1080p? Would this build run 1440 ok?

Thanks in advance for feedback!

Anyone got any good guys for painting a new case? I want a Modern White not a Black.

Be careful with your case selection, or cooler selection. I have a Cryorig R1 Ultimate inside of a Fractal Define R2 XL and there is about 1.5 cm clearance to the side panel on my board.

Make sure it's wide enough. Anything slimmer than a Define R2 XL is probably going to be pretty close or not fit at all. So your case MAY be fine but just do some looking around to make sure others have done it or confirm those measurements sbubby.

What is the furthest (GPU and CPU wise) I can go with AM3+?
>>
>>57271593
Well, I'll check everything before purchasing them, but it should fit.

Another question: is worth buying a aircooler instead a liquidcooler? some people recommended me this one(or the noctua) instead the corsair h100/110 because a AIO is not worth the money, can someone confirm that?

''Gaming'', yeah, but still better than Asus Maximus VIII hero, same price and less possibilities to oc properly, with more stability.

Can you suggest one good motherboard ?

No reason at all to upgrade your base platform, but the graphics card sucks at this point. You'd see no improvement at all going from the Haswell i5 to the Skylake i5.

All you need is a current gen graphics card (1060 or 1070) and a bigger SSD and you're set. Keep the OS on your 120GB and put all your games on a 240GB or 500GB.

If you really want to do 4K you should wait for 1080Ti and spend your money there and on a good monitor. You can always sell your monitor down the road, but you're really going to want Freesync (AMD) or Gsync (Nvidia), HDR, and high Hz. HDR 4K isn't even produced if I'm not mistaken.

Good 4K really isn't here yet.

8350 and probably any graphics card. The bottleneck is pretty much gone (for its price point) in new games
>>
>>57272228
so an 8350 and a 10X0 card would be fine for the next 2-3 years?
>>
>>57272274
Yes, depending on your res/Hz I'd get a 6GB 1060
>>
>>57272228
Does bottlenecking affect anything besides fps? Can a large enough difference cause significant problems?

>>57272459
Current Build right now
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/dCmWr7

Folks asking for christmas gifts, I want to run overclocked CPUs and maybe sell and swap out the GPU, despite having built it over a month ago.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/RcCtWX

Am I stupid for seeing if I can get it to something like this (while selling off the old parts) instead of waiting for ZEN/Kaby lake and/or being contempt with my setup?

>>57271760
Same guy you're replying to.

I don't know, I've never had a liquid cooler before but the dual rads, I mean, they're big. Dual 140..I don't see why liquid would really be too much better you get just about the same surface area with this cooler being dual tower.

I'll say this. I had my 8350 Vishera up to 1.53VCore and it evened out to about 47C under full load all 8 cores pegged with Prime 95.

However, I have the dual Noctua 3000RPM fans on mine for dickwaving's sake, and I'm sure they move a hell of a lot more air than the stock fans for the R1.

Thanks for the feedback.

Would I benefit from upgrading the RAM to DDR4?
