Is ramsonware literally pay or get fucked? Or is there hope if you get this tipe of shit?
Pic unrelated
A lot of ransomware is very poorly implemented. For example some versions reuse the same key. So it really depends on what you caught.
But a proper one will fuck you over. In fact, some poor implementations cant even decrypt or fuck up files trying to decrypt them.

if you're hit by something brand new, the former.
if you're hit by something that's been out for some time, there may be some decrypt tools available.

But luckily you still have your unconnected external backup and your offsite backup.

Keep backups

There was some software that essentially ran your machine like a VM.
Everything you run would be virtualized and can only access what you give it access to.
But it's a pain to use I've heard. Unless you're torrenting random russian music and accidently click on cykablyat.mp3.exe often then you should be fine.

if you have copies of the exact same files in some other directory you can find out the key by comparing encrypted and unencrypted files to each other

Are ramsomware devs really that shit?

either :
a.) use linux and back up your shit, or
b.) make sure your legit windows licence isn't one of those manufacturer's oem shitstains, or create a disk image of your fresh install (my experience, windows 8 & 10 are bitchy about this for "security reasons"), and back up your shit
russian hackers aint got nothing on the well-prepared. they prey on the stupid and the tech illiterate. if you take even a few steps to protect yourself you're effectively immune to most problems. extortionists and criminals are lazy and they'll go for easy targets. it's why you have a lock on your door -- it doesn't somehow "stop criminals" it just deters the lazy ones.

yes, they're made to target the computer illiterate, who would totally pay them $500 worth of itunes cards, western union/greendot or BTC, a lot of the anti ransomware depends on having a clean backup of any of the infected files anyways to decrypt the key.
