Genuinely, I love the idea. I wouldn't mind spending the money for it, if I had a usecase that wasn't just >fucking around in photoshop making retarded ass edits of dumb shit my friends say and do
I AM surprised they're not running the newer Pascal hardware in it, though. That's a genuine surprise to me. Big performance leap, big decrease in power draw, and a bigger selling feature than "We've got high-end mobile graphics from last year embedded!"
>>

the fact that they can unironically announce this thing using outdated laptop GPUs is just fucking tragic.
>>
>>57251928
umm,

This isnt a gaming rig, kid. This is for office use and for artists. Do you know how much an art tablet is? pretty fucking expensive for non-shit ones. Considering the prices, specs, and features, this thing is a steal. and a 980M is more than enough.

Apple's only real entry in this segment doesn't even have a digitizer and the ipad pro doesnt even count, so you still have to invest in a drawing tablet. Also Apple's software has not been catering to professionals anymore, but instead deviantart grade "artists"

Also the 10 series mobile gpus aren't even ready yet.

MS is retarded and it really shows and before the full retards comment, higher performance means better app performance and the Pascal GPUs support DP1.4 which means you don't have to fuck around with the DP spec to run a 4.5K screen, DP1.2 support in older GPUs means 4K max

>>
>>57252480
The 1060 uses less power than the 980m
>>
>>57251874

I'm really fuckin bummed it doesn't have it, but I'm not surprised it doesn't either.

First Theory: Mobile pascal only came out like 2 months ago, and yes, there are already gaming PCs with mobile pascal in them, but PCs like the Studio are not using generic components with a generic case. Lead times on the manufacture of devices like this are much longer than generic gaming PCs, especially a first generation design where they probably had to redo the design multiple times throughout its development cycle in response to manufacturing difficulties.

Simply dropping in a Pascal GPU is easier said than done. It would likely require a large retooling as well as a redesign of several additional components to take full advantage of the Pascal GPU. If Microsoft could've dropped a 1060/1070 in there you bet your ass they would've, anything to completely blow the iMac out of the water would be welcome.
>>
>>57254862
They give that shit to grunts. The big executives are retards with their money, and this plays well with Active Directory, so both executives and IT will agree.
This is genius from a money making standpoint.
>>
So the pen is still the same as the SP4 and Surface Book? I was hoping they'd upgrade it because it still only has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, while Wacom's pen has 2048. I do wonder how that dial will work out, though.
>>

GTX 1080

http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade

GTX 1060

No excuse for MS, they're just being silly when other vendors are shipping Pascal in their products
>>
>>57254253
Because the 980m is offered as a performance upgrade, but a 1060 draws less power while performing better at a lower price. Also half the die size.

If "nobody needs" is your whole answer, why do they offer a gpu upgrade in the first place?
>>
>>57254435

A fast processor with multiple cores is a key item because ZBrush is only CPU based. The more powerful, the better
>>
>>57254993

because the target market doesn't upgrade like PCMR bros do. they buy the system, use the system, then buy a new system when they feel their workflow would greatly benefit by getting a newer system. by the time the replacement actually happens its not even worth upgrading piecemeal anyways.

in a more enterprise setting, even the artist systems are on a lifecycle, they aren't whitebox systems that are upgraded piecemeal.
