I'll start with this here.

Literally every program I've tried otherwise is shit compared to IDM's features.

What situations would you use that software? Are you downloading several movies at once? Images from 4chan or imagefap?

There are only two situations where I need to explicitly download content: Videos off of a website like YouTube (or porntube) and images/webms from a thread on /s/.

For vids I use youtube-dl and for the entire thread on 4chan I use a wget command. Years ago I used a web browser addon called flashgot. That worked ok.

My guess is that IDM gives the user a GUI to use but has similar functionality to CLI programs. Are there other situations where a "download manager" is useful?

Ah. So it doesn't seem as though you are doing anything too complex. But you have a lot of content you know you want to DL in advance. For something like that I know many folks would prefer a gui. Although I prefer cli usually.

>>57248170
>what are the best "flash video downloaders" around? Mainly just want to use it for saving porn.
I don't know what the best is. For the few free sites I use, youtube-dl works fine. Again, that is a cli program. There may be frontends that already exist, but I don't know how shitty they are. Youtube-dl does have a rate DL option, but I have never used it.

If you use Firefox you should check out the addons. You are bound to find something that works well. I was using Flashgot and it got the job done.

SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Origin (from Origin Labs, not vidya games one) are the first things that comes to my mind. Mathematica too, I guess, but I never bothered to check, so I dont know. Oh and FineReader for OCR, basically no open source software can handle OCR properly, especially eastern languages like Japanese.

I would really want to see proper opensource counterpart of Origin, but so far, nothing at all.

Actually the opposite.

Basically, there is no reason to use fucking rar in 2016.

To utilize rar, you literally have to use a PAID program, while zip and tar are free
