LXDE or XFCE?
Or anything different?
>>
>>57240179
lxde is pretty no-frills, windows XP-ish

xfce is more fancy but still not a lot of memory usage, more akin to a mac-like setup by default

On modern systems you should just go with XFCE.
>>
>>57240179
MATE
>>
>>57240200
really?
why?
i have heard reviews, just never got around to getting it.
>>
>>57240179
Never used LXDE.

I find XFCE too buggy.

KDE is the best.

>>57240200
Also acceptable.

Between those two I'd go with Xfce.

LXQt will be better but it'll take time. LXQt has lxrunner, which is a massive plus. However the Qt file picker is more retarded than that of gtk.

I use Xfce myself
>>
>>57240208
reasons to support your argument? in favour of KDE

>>57240196
right.

Also, how do we purge cinnamon?
>>
>>57240216
how did you theme it that way?
teach me please

and yeah, lxqt is still underway a lot of huge changes
>>
>>57240221
I wasn't making an argument, I was stating an opinion. And to answer your question, I just find it the most polished of all DEs, second only maybe to GNOME, but I don't care much for that either.
>>
>>57240239
yeah, i didnt eman it the argument way, just couldnt find a better word. sorry

yeah, it sure is polished, gotta try it out.

Are you using a vanilla distro? It's called indicator plugin. look up xfce-mixer
>>
I like MATE
>>
>>57240303
alright, thanks
also, im pretty newb to installing themes on xfce, never got around to get ubuntu look better, ever, so could i have a bit brief tutorial on it please?
Adapta-nokto
>>
>>57240330
You are on Xubuntu, right? I hope it's at least ubuntu 16.04.
1. Install themes:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tista/adapta
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/icons
sudo apt update
sudo apt install adapta-* arc-icons

2. Install typecatcher
sudo apt install typecatcher

3. Tweak:

3.1. Open typecatcher and install montserat and source code pro
3.2. From appearance pick adapta nokto for themes and arc in icons tab. Select montserat semibold for fonts
3.3. Open window manager panel and pick adapta theme
3.4. Open window manager tweaks and set your preferred opacity of windows
3.5. On Xfce panel, open properties and unlock the panel (find the checkbox). Set opacity to 70%.
3.5. Add, preposition and remove the applets you like
3.6 Tweak appearance in xfce4-terminal
>>
>>57240467
alright thanks, i had done half of it by this comment though.

I like how Xfce works with almost any themes, that's the reason why I use it over MATE

yeah ...amazing

how do we do 3.6?
>>
Gnome is v comfy
>>
>>57240620
Right click on panel
Click on panel/panel\ preferences
Unlock panel, set alpha to 40 on appearance

Also make a keyboard shortcut that opens xfce4-whiskermenu on windows-key press
>>
>>57240622
you are so damn wrong.

XFCE is nice and works plus has more options which can be configured with the GUI

LXDE is nice and works but IIRC has GUI configuration for less stuff and opening a terninal to edit a .conf may be needed {{maybe}} i dont really remember but that seemed to be the case which is good for many but not so good if you want to set up everything thru a GUI

in the end just plain openbox-session with a few things from LXDE

gpicview
lxappearance
lxdm
lxmenu-data
lxrandr
openbox
pcmanfm
+fbpanel or whateveryoulike makes a fine desktop

however one last thing comes to mind
LX-projects seem to be more worked on...

>>57240216

Kek you retard.
>>
I hate both of them. Rather than have the capabilities of something like KDE but done in a far more bare and utilitarian way, they just remove entire features outright and call it "minimal".
>>
>>57241258
>shoot me now
kek
>>
What is the best between both for a laptop (mostly for the battery)?
>>
>>57240179
Between those two, XFCE but I'd say Mate is the most polished of the "lightweight" DEs. Just install a launcher that you can open with the start button and you're good to go.

If you don't mind something heavier, just install GNOME and install the extensions you need. Maximus and window buttons alone make a world of a difference. Granted, it took me a good 28 separate extensions to pull off the ideal DE for me but it was well worth the time.
>>
>>57240179
i prefer XFCE but LXDE is a cool lightweight DE.
