Anyone here have an MD-380? I've been using it as a cheap DMR scanner with the experimental firmware. It's pretty good.

W6KKK good afternoon,
Interesting callsign, does it have a story behind it?

I still don't get it...
>>57239874
I have a MD-380 as well and bought it specifically for the hacked firmware. I haven't loaded the hacked one yet (waiting for someone to tell me it works and wont brick my radio).
But it's a nice radio. Nicer than my Baofeng for sure.
>>57239881
Vanity call sign.
VK3 that's somewhere out there?
>>57239883
Google what HAM Radio is and it will become fairly apparent. There is too much information to type here.
Hope that helps.
>>57239904
Ok, I would have thought they might remove that one off the list due to the potential for it to be misinterpreted.
VK is Australia
3 is the state of Victoria

A ham radio is what pigs use to communicate over long distances. I don't see how hard it was to type that up

it works and won't brick your radio

yeah man im not giving my real callsign on 4chin
that callsign doesn't even comply with the structure.
that being said, i'm a technician class ham, got my license at the beginning of the year.
But I rarely go on it anymore. all the guys on the local repeater are pretty old and I don't have a lot in common with them.

Checked
Thanks. I gotta program up a good codeplug too... i got one from the repeater system, but I don't like their layout. Takes forever to program all the shit I want in it.

Will I get in trouble using a 200mW VTX on my quadcopter in Australia? I think the legal limit is 25mW, but if I'm not being stupid will anyone care?
>>57240101
>Will I get in trouble
>Australia
yes. those cunts made everything illegal
>>57240154
Depends where you live. I grew up in the country and everything is pretty relaxed. I drag raced a cop once (my poor v6 Commodore couldn't keep up with their v8s).
But I'm in the city now and have no idea if they'll care about one guy flying at an oval.
>>57240347
Can confirm, sped past a cop in central NSW in a V8 datsun 200B, he pulled me over to see what the fuck I had done to make it sound so lush.
>>57239840
It's a ham radio...
Any bao users? Very good piece of hardware
>>57243469
Yeah I got a Baofeng GT3-TP (8w tri-power) and it's totally decent.
The UV-5R is cheap as fuck and also totally decent. At $25 it's a great starter radio, and a throw-away if something goes wrong or gets damaged. Spend as little as possible on these - you don't need a fancier version. And even the little battery does really well. It over delivers.
can i use my pc as a ham radio if i just got myself an antenna?
are there any programs out there for this type of thing?
