Now that the Note 7 is dead and Pixel is nothing compared to what Nexus has been, is the Axon 7 the canon choice (at least until the Mi Note 2 comes)?

I was thinking about getting a cheap phone, but since I live in Brazil I have to get an International version of the phone I want.

Which has better band compatibility? Axon 7? One Plus 3? Mi5s?

I would like a good design to show off at parties. Good battery and camera are a plus, as well as ease to root and flash a custom ROM. Thanks.
>>
>>57240265
>Which has better band compatibility? Axon 7? One Plus 3? Mi5s?
Axon 7 - Major carrier comparability, but not sure about how well it does on Verizon.
OP3 - AT&T, Tmobile.
Mi5s - No real carrier support in the U.S

OP3 has good design, camera, and easy to flash and root. Battery is alright (3.5-5 hours usage) on average.

Axon 7 loses the warrant with unlocking.

Not sure about Mi5s ROMs.
>>
>>57240453
>loses the warrant with unlocking.
Phone warranty is a meme. Wait a few weeks to make sure nothing is defective then fuck it. The overwhelming majority of smartphone failures would be caused by dropping the phone which manufacturer warranty won't cover.

Anyone know of any android phone lock apps that let you have two or more ways to unlock your phone at a given time? I haven't been very weel the past few months and am in and out of the hospital a few times per week, and i want to havea d ual lock on my phone so that before I die I can have a definitive way of letting people that have my diary get into my phone to let people know i'm dead. I do just have the connect-the-dot lock, but my parents dont have the steadiest of hands so I want a regular password as well.

Googling jsut brings up things like "who to get multiple lock wallpapers!", and adding -wallpaper just brings more crap thats not relevant at all.

Bootlooping LG's would beg to differ. That issue usually comes after using the phone for a year or so.

I'm glad I wasn't an idiot and unlocked it, because I had to warranty my G4, would have sucked to have to deal with that extra headache. But I guess I am still an idiot, because I believed /g/ memes and bought LG.

I broke my RN3P

I was looking for something new , i loved it but i kinda don't want to buy the same thing as i would rather feel like it's an involuntary upgrader rather than being a clumsy shit who has to replace things

I loved RN3P but felt a bit let down by the camera, I keep seeing the Axon 7 but i can't find the A2017G model anywhere and even the A2017 seems to be priced well above the OP3

Do i go OP3 or should i just suck it up and get a RN3P again

Sup /spg/,

the usb port on my Lumia 920 died so I decided that it's time to move back to Android.
I grabbed my mothers old Xperia Z1, wiped it, unlocked the bootloader and flashed myself a 6.0 CM based ROM.

I've done my android rounds for around 5 years now and I'm thinking of pulling the iphone trigger.

I've experimented with custom roms gone hardcore on services and standby / screen on time but I envy everyone around me with iphones that just do shit well and don't require hours of tinkering. I just want to tap on an app and not roll the dice on it re opening the entire application. Every android revision from 4 , 5, 6 I've told myself it would get better but it hasn't.

I just cant justify it anymore, the android platform is just a broken mess.

Pixel XL for more casual users who just want something basic, but solid.
V20 for power users that might lose out on things like the AMOLED display or fast updates, but gain stuff like microSD slot, removable battery and dual cameras.
>>
>>57249550

Doesn't change the fact that they are still evil.
>>
>>57249738
microSD is a huge draw for me, it's how I've kept my shit from phone to phone over six plus years now
>>
>>57249828
For me the huge draw of the LG G and V series is the removable batteries and dual cameras.
Had the G4, have the G5, and would get the V20 if I was currently on the market for a phone.

Though I admit with phones like the Xiaomi Mi Mix and Google Pixel, I'm incredibly excited for phones in the next couple years.
A bezelless V20 with an AMOLED display would be GOAT.

But the fucking bazels man, it looks ugly as fuck. If it was cheaper I'd be ok with it but spending this amount of money for something I don't really like the design of is hard. I didn't care about the lg v20 cost because I liked how it looked and the design of it.

There is nothing else at all?
>>
>>57250081
Well, there's the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Mi Mix that were both announced yesterday that look promising, but it's too new to have any real idea if they're actually any good, or just completely shit for all we know.

No Samgsung rules out S7.
No front button rules out OP3.
Don't know enough about the Huawei Mate 8 or Huawei P9 Plus to recommend them, but you could look into it - especially the camera.
Obviously no iPhone, and ruled out by front button anyway.

Pretty much leaves Pixel with some of the best build quality of any current phone, but a kinda ugly design as you stated, or the V20.
Both are solid options, though. I personally love the V20, but just giving you your options.

G5's still a solid device. It's actually what I own now.
Design isn't as pretty as the V20.
Still has an always on display, though it isn't as bright or practical as the V20's 2nd display.
Isn't as premium or durable as the V20, but still passable for a flagship.

Is the brand new iPhone 7 Plus worth the money?

So, here's my story (sad, it's but true, about a phone that I once knew...):

I live in Brazil. I used to have a Lumia 920 (loved it) and listened to music on my iPod Touch 3rd gen, I also had a iPad Retina Display (maybe 4th gen, don't know exactly, it was 2013). My Lumia stopped working, I got mugged so they took my iPod and my iPad is wrecked (the display and touch are gone). These days I am suffering with a mini Galaxay S3 (yes) and a Ultrabook from Sony VAIO (not totally shit, but, you know).

The fact is that buying gadgets in here is a huge waste of money (a trip from São Paulo to NYC including flight tickets, AirBnB and the new iPhone 7 is cheaper than buying the same iPhone 7 in Apple Store São Paulo). Nevertheless, I am going to Toronto by february.

So, I don't really know what to do with my money. Here are my options: buy a new iPhone 7 Plus; buy a new Google Pixel; Buy a new Surface Pro 4; Don't get any phone, but a new iPod Touch 7th gen; Just buy a used iPod Classic (which is way cheaper) just to listen to music; Buy a new iPad.

So, what are your thoughts, bros?
>>
>>57253136
By February there will be a shitload of new phones that will be better than the Pixel.

Hey /g/, i can get the pixel, s7, or lg v20 for $550 at verizon. There are a lot of complaints on here about the pixel but the s7 is not as good spec wise, right? (besides the resolution). What about the v20?
Or should I wait until next year and get an s8 or something?

Pixel has an 821, while the S7 and V20 have 820s. The S7, even with Touchwiz, can hang with the Pixel. V20 is also pretty good, but I haven't done enough research on to where exactly it lands performance wise. It also has removable battery and SD card support, if that's what you want. However, S7 and Pixel get better battery life than V20.

So it depends on if you want to upgrade this holiday season or want to see if the S8 has in late February-March.
>>
>>57256082
Lets be honest, unless you're a power user you wont be able to tell the difference between the speed of the Snapdragon 821 or 820. Nor can a human eye tell the difference between 534 and 513 PPI.

If you want a removable battery then you get the v20. If you want removable microsd then you get the v20 or s7. If you want to be the first to get android updates you want the pixel. Otherwise look at the phones and see how you like the feel of them in your hand.

And if your current phone is fine? They aren't worth the upgrade. s8 is rumored to be coming out with the snapdragon 830, new iphones could have completely bezelless screens, new HTC is going to come with a handy from the guy working at Sprint...
>>
>>57256569
So you really think the next wave of phones will be better long term phones than this wave? I plan on using a phone for 2 to 3 years easily.
>>
>Want to buy Moto G3

>>57256625
Obviously but then the argument could be to wait until next summer.
Will the pixel or s7 be good long term phones? Maybe that is a dumb question still...

Generally speaking, Pixel is probably the best long-run phone to go with, given it'll easily have the longest support life out of any phone on the market.

But phones are continuously getting better with every release. As soon as you buy any device, there's going to be something new from another brand in a month or two.
See S7 Note, suddenly followed by the release of the V20, Pixel XL and Xiaomi Note 2 or Mi Mix.

Couldn't disagree more with Pixel being the "best long-run phone." Not because of anything wrong with the Pixel, just that the first version of anything is never the /best/ version.

Again, how is your current phone working? If it's fine wait until you see something on the market that makes you go "oooooohhhhh." it'll show up. Or your current phone will start to get slow and then you'll choose from that years crop of phones.

My current phone is fine. I have had it for 3 years now. I do want something new but I could wait longer. Honestly I would get a chinese phone if verizon supported them. Maybe I can get an s6 for cheap?

What's the state of Cyanogenmod for the Moto G4? Is it worth trying at this point, or still mostly a work in progress?

The most informative thread I've managed to find on xda was closed a while ago.
>>
>>57257117
My answer remains unchanged. VR is a gimmick, as much as smartwatches and secondary displays are on phones.
>>
>>57257117
Moto G2 maybe?

Why not just get a good phone, you are spending +-$200 anyway.
>>
>>57256841

One last question. The pixel from verizon has a locked bootloader. It will probably be unlocked eventually right? I would love to have my phone rooted eventually.
>>

So I'm probably gonna grab Xperia XZ tomorrow, any other phones I should consider before settling on it?
>>
>>57257191
>Moto G2
Thanks for the suggestion. About getting a good phone, I actually don't plan on spending too much on phones. For the use I make, the only thing I look for nowadays is decent battery time and relatively ok camera (yeah, I've gone wrong on this one with the Thor).

>>57257172
Well thing is I'd like to try some sort of VR and cardboard + phone seems like the cheapest way. Don't want to invest in "real" VR gear like Occulus or Vive yet, since the tech is so young and they're not cheap. S yeah just a way to try.

>>
>>57256841
Well, they're certainly the first of the Pixel generation, but they're still the spiritual successors of the Nexus line, and if they're anything to go by, they should have a long life.
Especially since the big change is that the Pixel is meant to have significantly better build quality than the cheaper Nexus line.

A very shit phone. You can't take a call when its extended because the hinge is so weak that the phone keeps flipping over when you do much with it. Plus it is a very old Android version.
>>
>>57257139
Oh hey. Turns out the ROM development stuff is happening solely on the G4 Plus side of xda. Never mind.

I'm thinking of buying a Xiaomi mi5s but with Fido it's only compatible with Band 7.

hey /g/,
I can use a recent verizon smartphone and put a att, tmobile, whatever sim card cause it's "unlocked" with the smartphone. add the carriers apn settings and it will work with the smartphone.
but
I was wondering if the same will work with a verizon tablet which is unlocked also.
lets say a Verizon Ellipsis 8 wifi plus lte unlocked tablet
if I put in an att, tmobile, any carrier 4g sim card and add the apn settings
will it get the data/internet service of the sim card no matter what country it's in?
please respond.
I know verizon smartphones are factory gsm unlocked cause I have tried many/a lot and they work. but will the tablet(verizon elipsis 8) work also just like the verizon smartphones?

thank you for your time.
I love you /g/ and this website. pls respond. pls
