Google Fiber head left.

Layoffs incoming.

Further fiber roll-out cancelled.

You can thank Larry Page for this.
>>
Thanks Larry.
>>
RIP
America will be forever cucked by ISPs now.
>>
>>57239230
trying to fight monopolies is just stupid. they bribe authorities to not allow access to already built posts so why bother. they should go for nokia's 5g that is even faster than fiber
>>
Larry Page had previously ordered Google Fiber to drastically cut cost.

http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/08/google-fiber-fails-to-hit-subscriber-goal-will-reportedly-cut-staff/

Page simply doesn't understand how capital-heavy businesses like ISP work.

Typical software kids not understanding how capital intensive is building physical infrastructure.

They saw that Access is hugely unprofitable, so they ditched it, because it would turn green numbers maybe 10 years from now.

They ignored the key *potential* synnergy for google it could bring, and will instead rely on comcast tier oligopolies. Bummer.

I doubt its page being that stupid, sounds more like MBA board pressure who don't understand the glacial scale residential ISPs operate, so they scraped it. This is why Alphabet was created in the first place, to avoid capex subsidies to unprofitable endeavors, and get more in the shareholder pocket.

This will be googles undoing down the line, as their already meager capacity to innovate diminishes further. They'll become next facebook, buying out competitors, then microsoft, powerful, but fading.

Why not have the US government build fiber from curb to home networks, and then let everyone and their mother utilize it for their ISPs including startups?

So comcast and others would have basically free infrastructure.

Also can we please replace the decaying POTS with infrastructure that's not from the 70s,that's not proprietary and incompatible with today's networking hardware at the same time that we're installing fiber?

When the US was being wired up for electricity the government had to intervene because it was so costly for power companies to wire up the remote homes in the country side.

You clearly don't understand economics or how reality works.

This is how it's done in South Korea.

It was also how it was to be done with NBN in Australia until Liberals came back in and killed it immediately.
