Try to condense more into each line. Also you don't really need indentation. Oh and don't forget to make the names of the variables a little more cryptic, "tableName", for example, is too descriptive.

can't be fucked looking it up, but there's no way in hell mysql sucks hard enough to not support bind variables.

just use a real db like postgre, or a faggot non-db like mongo. no one who knows anything about databases would use mysql if they had a choice.

it's not about the database software

it's about the library used

in this case, he's using PHP, so for bind variables he needs to use PDO instead of mysqli.
