Currently have an OG Black Widow. I want to die. I am building a new PC. Anyone have a recommendation for a quiet keyboard, with 1 to 10 Dedicated Macro Keys?

I don't need things to light up. I don't need custom keycaps with chinkshit on them. I just need a quiet keyboard that has macro keys I can dick with.
>>
>>57221709
On programmable keyboard, every key is macro key.
>>
>>57221781
So do you have a recommendation besides just a programmable one? So many to chose from nowadays with all these different brands and switches.

>Anyone have a recommendation for a quiet keyboard
the problem is that quiet keyboards are niche market and there aren't that many options
Matias Quiet switches are actually quieter then rubberdomes and come with linear and tactile options
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/search.php?keyword=&brand=&switch=32&size=&led=&capmat=&capprint=&model=&availability=in_stock_pre&show_kb=off&show_kb=on&show_acc=off

Then you have silent cherry switches, but these are only linear.
You can find then on Leopold or Corsair keyboards.
>>
>>57221798
If you want a silent cherry then maybe get a Leopold Fc980M.
It is programmable so that should solve your macro problem

r8 it m8s

Placed it on pre-order way back in August. Arrived last week, a couple of days before the estimated ship date when I originally ordered. Always nice when it works out that way.

Absolutely a pleasure to type on, though I'm still getting used to it after using a $15 logitech rubber dome keyboard for many years. Build quality is excellent. Flex under pressure is almost non-existent, it's got an impressive amount of heft, no rattling or noise of any kind from it. Polymers all have a good feel to them. Feet are quality and the included cable is as nice as anything else I own.

Right out of the box, I was having some pretty serious key chatter issues on the S, Space, and Right Ctrl keys. As I use it, the frequency of repeats is going down rapidly. 'S' has just about stopped doing it entirely, Space about 25% of what it was, and it seems like it's continuing to improve. Just a break-in thing I guess on these damped switches.

The guys at MK already offered to have me ship it back to them at their expense so they can replace the problem switches, so either way it's no big deal.

Besides that, I'm loving this thing.

Unfortunately, it's already made me hate the dell OEM keyboard I have at work.

Sorry for the potato quality pic, I'll try to get some better ones of the board when I get home.
>>
>>57222078
Might I ask how you got your wood looking so nice?

>>
>>57222572
The only mechanical keyboard I have had is the Ducky Zero and it has been perfect so I just defaulted to what was on it. The switches are the important thing so I could go with some different keycaps.

As long as I dont need to use those orange ones would you make a suggestion to replace these? https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1545

The default ones on that board are double shot ABS, which are one of the best types keycaps that you can buy, so downgrading to pad printed garbage really isn't the best thing to do. Instead why not get something of similar quality like PBT dye-sub or a different double shot

here is a suggestion they are double shot PBT and only cost 30 bucks

Man, I really wish there were more options out there for ALPS style switches. I see lots of really sexy caps posted that I'll never be able to take advantage of.

At least PMK had a red ESC key available for me. Besides that, the only things I've found are two more color schemes from Tai-Hao (same guys that made the Dolch set my KB came with).

I don't like them. I bottom out when typing and gaming, and o-rings change the solid feeling of a switch held all the way down into a gross squishy feeling.
>>
>>57223610
so it doesn't make the bottom out and recognition that the key was pressed any faster? I got DSA keycaps recently and I feel so much lower on the board and I love it, I was wondering if o-rings could extend that even further and let me bottom out every stroke but realize it faster
>>
>>57223567

Yeah, I've seen Tai-Hao doubleshot ABS sets in Olivette, Dolch, and "Vintage Beige". My V80 was available in all three, and I definitely like the Dolch the best.

Unfortunately, they're all cylindrical and I'd really love to get a spherical set. I think DSA Dolch is A E S T H E T I C, and the "Godspeed" set that recently dropped gave me a raging hard on.

That's what I get for prioritizing the switch choice over customization options though.

The first couple of times I got to try a mechanical keyboard it was friends who bought boards with cherry reds and blacks for 'gaming'. That experience led me to write them off as shill shit for years until I finally read about the different types of switches.

I just tried switching the keycaps from my Dell AT101W with some from the Apple Extended Keyboard II and they worked perfectly.

I have never tried a mechanical keyboard and hopes of trying one locally is zero. I don't really want to get a key tester because delivery would take a month or some bullshit to get here then another month to get a keyboard with the switches I prefer. So, I have basically decided on browns because if it's not tactile enough, I would get something tactile and if I don't like the bump, I would get something linear. It will be used 80% for general typing and the rest on mobas and osu.
Any recs on decently cheap chinkboards with browns? TKL preferred.
>>
>>57227771
No idea on cheap chinkboards. Maybe try MagicForce, Zhuque(TeamWolf) or ReDragon if they got some cheap gateron browns.

Coming from a person who recently got into mKBs, browns are the best choice. They feel a lot better than pleb domes.

Buying blues or reds later is a great choice if you don't like the browns.

I have a Dell AT-101W and I've been searching eBay for ANYTHING with alps or alps clone caps. I bought this based on the very little information I found and some pictures of the switches. They're supposed to be alps clone mounts, but on a hybrid switch. I'm gambling that there wasn't some change in the switches. I like the look, so I'll see if they even fit or if they feel like shit. But oh well, if not I just bought a broken keyboard, with no cable, for almost as much as I paid for my AT-101W. Please tell me I didn't fuck up.

Logitech has yet to produce a mechanical keyboard that isn't a piece of crap. The g710 had a non-standard bottom row, was known for dead LEDs and broken keycaps.

The g910 uses some failed attempt at redesigning mechanical switches.

The g610 doesn't only have a non-standard bottom row, the stabilizer placement is also non-standard.

Cooler master, on the other hand, is actually known for producing mostly good keyboards (except for the quickfire TK and the rapid-i)

That being said, don't let me stop you from throwing your money away.

There's also a VA68M that I guess would be considered a 70% or 75%, comes with Gateron switches, has white LED backlighting, and a nice looking aluminum case for $159

VR68M is the same but with RGB lighting and a different color aluminum case for $189.

>>
>>57237301
can you find any complains on g610 build quality that you can quote actually?

g610 is plate planted heavy keyboard with good keycaps

there are no complains of shining like corsair or dying leds after 2 months like cooler master that I have seen

do you got something specific or you just parrot what you see others say?

also I dont want programmable, I want backlight but not xmas tree, g610 seems like it found good balance there
while others seems to go for reflective surface that makes the outline of key extremely outshining the label of the key from shots Ive seen
>>
>>57237365
>complains of shining
The keycaps are ABS, just because nobody here has one and is hence not complaining about the keycap shine doesn't mean that ABS will stop doing what ABS does, that being developing shine with use.

The keyboards anon mentioned are made by a company that is known for good keyboards, with standard layouts. There's no reason to buy a keyboard from a company with a track record like logitech when Ducky exists.

And backlight is dimmable you know.

Then why did you specifically ask for a keyboard that has lighting zones instead of the whole thing lighting up.

Anyway lets start
>plate planted
Almost all modern mechanical keyboards are plate mounted, heck my cheap Chinese one has a metal plate so that really isn't something to brag about

>good keycaps
No these are laser etched ABS keycaps and they will end up with shine like every ABS keyboard does. PBT is more resistant to shine. Also not to mention the nonstandard layout and nonstandard stabilizer placement will make it extremely difficult to change those keycaps once the begin to wear off. The 5.75U spacebar is an exclusive piece that can't be found in any aftermarket keycap set. And the stock keycaps on the g610 is nothing exceptional. Ducky's abs doubleshot/dye-sub PBT keycaps are much better in every regard. (Pic related is what double shot keycaps look like)

>do you got something specific
Yes any Ducky keyboard as I have said. The step up in build quality is definitely worth it
>>
>>57237437
are you saying cooler master does not use ABS keycaps?
because thats what you recommended just seconds ago and praised it?
are you feeling ashamed now because you did not go like every retard in to directly recommending ducky and filco that are not available everywhere and are greatly overpriced for what they actually offer?

>>57237516
so you got nothing but potential for shine as build quality issue
and inability to change bottom rows keys

what now?

I didn't say that cooler master doesn't use ABS keycaps, I said that the logitech board uses ABS keycaps that will shine, because for some reason you seemed to believe otherwise.

Though cooler master boards actually offer a standard layout (except for the quickfire TK), so you can replace the keycaps with whatever other keycaps you want.

But honestly, if you're that convinced of the g610 then go buy it. You'll probably be happy with it, just don't expect people here to approve of your purchase.

The build quality issues still exist anon and putting a bandage on them isn't going to make them go away. You didn't debunk anything the keycaps are still shit no mater how many of them you buy and it still has a nonstandard layout and stabilizer placement.

Anyway I suggested you get the Ducky One which come in a variety of flavors from 140 to 90 bucks

Any recommendations for keyboards with Cherry MX Brown switches? I'm looking at the Rosewill RK-9000 (pic related) but 80 bucks is a pretty steep price to pay for a keyboard.

If spending that much on a keyboard might be a problem then why not consider Chinese keyboards. Rosewill is a good choice for a lower end keyboard, but Magiforce, Tomoko, Zhuque, etc. all have mechanical keyboards for under 50 bucks.

Heck you can even get old dell mechanical keyboards like the at101w or apple AEK for under 50 bucks too. Sadly the apple keyboards need an adapter

Problem is that quiet mechanical keyboards are a small market, but there are a few options like silent linear cherry switches on a Leopold FC980M
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=365
but they are scratchy as hell.

Alternatively these are quieter then rubber domes and are also tactile

I was replying to this here wasn't I?

Let me give you another reply since you seem to crave them so desperately.

>you also recommended CM
>which has exactly the same issues you are having with logitech, crap in previous keyboards
I'm not sure where you're getting this from. They have two keyboards that suck, the rest of their lineup is just fine and often recommended to people who want a good keyboard with cherry switches at a decent price.

Logitech on the other hand, has made nothing but shit keyboards so far.

ABS keycaps,... except one difference standard last row...
And non-standard stabilizer placement, so you can also forget about both shift keys.
>but since logitech offers replacment, if shine is a problem I can change it anyway
Like I said, if you want to replace thin ABS with more thin ABS, be my guest. Though most people prefer to actually upgrade their keyboard if they're going to spend extra money on it.
>hell I can change all of them except like 4-8 keys
And it'll look atrocious, we had a guy around here just a few weeks ago who got a g610 and a set of WASD keycaps, who then found out that some of the keycaps wouldn't fit due to the aforementioned reasons, he slapped his keycaps on anyway and it was, as you'd expect, an offense to aesthetics. If you want your keyboard to look like shit, feel free to do that too.

>and thats why you got called beta faggot, bet most around you view you like that too

>I'm not sure where you're getting this from. They have two keyboards that suck, the rest of their lineup is just fine
do tell which logitech cherry mx switches keyboards "suck" in comparison to CM cherry keyboards and why do they "suck"?
You got nothing but keyaps argument and as I said multiple times, I dont care about paying $100 for alternative keycaps
and you just rant on and on about keycaps and keycaps
but theres nothing from you about actual build quality or something else that would justify you saying that logitech cherry mx keyboards suck...
because you seem unable or unwilling to wrap your head around the fact that not everyone is spending days of their life in threads about MK and change their keycaps every other week to different rainbow flag

To wrap it all up with you
You object to logitech g610, because keycaps over the years will likely develop a slight shine.
thats where you are with your argument right now as I see it

>And it'll look atrocious
not necessarily, shades of different color for alphabet and leaving bottom keys... I could see it fine if I cared, you are grasping

non-standard bottom row.

Any mechanical keyboard with mx-style switches that isn't a korean custom or some vintage cherry board or otherwise comes with stock keycaps that aren't shit thin ABS, that uses a non-standard layout which makes it incompatible with almost all aftermarket keycap sets, sucks.
Because shit-thin ABS sucks.

It's that simple.
Like I told you multiple times already, you'll probably be happy with the g610. You're asking a thread about keyboards, so naturally you'll be arguing with keyboard enthusiasts. From an enthusiast standpoint, every logitech keyboard to date sucks.
There's better alternatives available which do not have this problem.

So I ordered a Roccat Ryos MK Pro a few weeks ago and I'm thoroughly enjoying my experience with it. I can't put into words exactly what it is but the feel of typing on this keyboard far surpasses anything I've ever had before. Now this has got me wondering, I didn't put a whole lot of thought into this, I just found something that was recommended by a few review sites and happened to be available at a price I was willing to pay, but surely this isn't the best possible typing experience out there. Do I want to go down this rabbit hole? I don't see myself having any need for a much better keyboard anyway, but knowing that the possibility exists now, it's too tempting.

What should I be looking to now?

I know I'm joining in late on this conversation, but allow me to voice my opinion. I've owned a couple of mechanical keyboards including Ducky. my current favorite is the IBM model M. You see every cherry keyboard I have bought has had some issues with the switches. I fixed most of these problems by simply hiting them multiple times. Now my logitech board had tactile switches with the issue being rattling. It wasn't their fault it was cherry. Overall it was a mid tier board with average build quality. My next keyboard was Ducky with clicky swithces. Those to had a problem since the sliders got stuck. It wasnt duckys fault it was cherry. The keys also did ratle, but it was less then logitech. They keyboard came with dye sub PBT caps and after typing on them I can never go back to ABS. They werent the best as some of them came bleached. I got sick and tired of all these shity cherry boards that I bought an old IBM of craigslist for dirt cheap and it performs better then any cherry board ive ever used.

If you can get the logitech board for cheap then go for it. Personally I wouldnt but finding model ms in Europe is hard so I cant blame you

Because no-solder swappable switch boards have worked out so well before.

My first foray into the world of mechanical keyboards was unsuccessful...

All I wanted was a smaller keyboard that clicks and i could install a neat Miami keyset.

Well, the keyboard I got doesn't work with the caps I got (even though they should), and now I have a decent keyboard that looks boring and plain and a bag of useless keys.

I can return the keys and be stuck with this keyboard, for which I will never find caps for since no one knows what the fuck switches they use, or keep the caps and hope they'll work for another board.

I didn't think it'd be THIS much of a headache desu

Pay attention to switch types. Miami is typically for Cherry clones. What board did you get? You can probably still recoup your loss on r/mechmarket if you can stomach leddit.

You got a v60 with matias switches, didn't you?

return or sell the keyboard and get a pok3r

I heard Hipros are pretty thicc

Otherwise you gotta mod in MX stems and use thick MX keycaps.

I got the AULA...it has the exact same pattern as the Cherry crosses, but the problem i think is that the fuckin keycaps I got are too 'shallow' like in pic related

They should still go on fine, what does the board look like?

Interesting, that's the first time I've seen that kind of problem.

What do the switches look like?

Here's a pic of the switches, along with a comparison of the original (white) keys and the pink ones I got.

Aside from the issue of the pink ones only sitting loosely on the switch, the ones I got also don't have a part to clasp onto these wires that are on the larger key switches (i.e. Shift, Space, etc)

i can only imagine the wobble
>>
>>57252495
return it if you can that's a piece of shit
>>
>>57252495

Nonstandard stabiliser is what's stopping it from working I'd imagine.

Any recommendations for cheaper ones that are still acceptable. An anon on a different general suggested Magicforce 9was still looking for 87 key layout)
