You can't do that with a GUI?
>>
>>57217559
You missed my ponint entirely.

I asked why don't people simply make better OSDs instead of creating new guis from scratch because guis usually come with their own hardcoded default parameters or simply can't load an external mpv.conf. Also, guis have their own share of problems - for instance, smplayer restarts mpv everytime you change to a new video on the playslist. - plus they come with their own keybinds instead of using mpv's keybinds

I just read all the previous thread with the madshi's clash.
I think some of you should rethink of what you did...
There were no good reason to dump all the madvr shaders like this.
Are you dummy or are you intentionally mean?

Everybody knows that mpv has much more features than madVR, of course it's a full cross-platform media player! Also madVR was created to get the best looking video rendering, not to get the best battery/ram efficient video renderer! However I am happy he is working on performance too.

Madshi has never done something wrong intentionally about the licences, he is not a Russian. Russia is really permissive about software licence compared to EU and USA as long as this doesn't pose a threat to the Kremlin's integrity!

Could you explain me gently what's your real problem with madVR?
>>
>>57219580

>>

It's as simple as that.
>>

+1
>>
>>57219580
>what's your real problem with madVR?

I have no problem with it. It's the people who worship it like its the best software written that gets annoying. And before no one knew the truth but madshi. Now we know the truth. If anything it will help madshi in the long run because he's already gotten some constructive criticism. But what he does with it is up to him. That's the problem with closed source software when only one guy is working on it, you don't have others perspective.

Porting them is porting the shaders to GLSL code, ie. to OpenGL shaders instead of DirectX shaders, they can be used on anything that can run GLSL shaders, like Retroarch
And all of this is made by people interested in them, or people who like seeing madshi butthurt, which is none of the core mpv devs, which also explains why some of the shaders are pure shit, like the NNEDI3 GLSL one

>>57226293
They're probably gaymurs who are use to high framerates.
>>
>>57226293
framerates of pc monitors are significantly different enough from TV framerates for interpolation to be necessary. No other reason.
>>

Contender for most retarded post itt
>>
>>57226431
24/1.001 is not cleanly divisible by 72, 60 or 50. Apply yourself.
>>
>>57226483
And yet interpolation is still not *necessary*

>>57226452
Video interpolation is the equivalent of Dre Beats, go ask /hpg/ their thoughts on that tech.
>>
>>57226293
>interpolation
You know the "interpolation" in mpv is difference from the "interpolation" in things like TVs, right? It's not motion-based interpolation, there are no "new" frames being generated, it's just blending frames together to get to the desired framerate, which eliminates skipping/juddering in the video.
>>
>>57226553
If you have a decent config and encode you dont really need it then, would you? I personally dont like it, it looks too artificial.
>>
>>57226553
True, but let's look at Haasn's config, linked at the top of every one of these threads:

interpolation=yes
tscale=bicubic

This looks like such shit. Why is this recommended by someone who otherwise seems to know what they're doing when it comes to mpv?
>>
>>57226575
The encode literally has nothing to do with it, if your monitor's refresh rate is not divisible by the source content's framerate, then you will have stuttering in the video. Certain monitors can handle this by allowing you to set variable framerates, but most don't. mpv's interpolation does basically as little as possible to the source content while still eliminating any framerate based stutters.
>>
interpolation-threshold=0.01 looks pretty good
>>
>>57226594
Another anon here. To my understanding, bicubic scaler is free of almost any kind of blocking, ringing or aliasing artefacts at the expence of a ton of blur. For tscale interpolation it basically removes all flashes/flickering but blurs all moving objects.

How do I get my display to switch to 72Hz with this, I have it in my scripts folder, and have my script-opts set as
script-opts=autospeed-nircmd=true,autospeed-nircmdc="nircmdc",autospeed-rates="72,60,24",autospeed-exitrate=60
but it's now switching.

Also, while using hwdec=d3d11va, my video doesn't work, and pic related shows in cmd.
>>
>>57223878
Not entirely true.
IPS glow is inherent. It can be mitigated with a polarizer, but it seems nobody actually does that. On a good quality panel, glow should be minimal (though still annoying, especially from odd angles).
Backlight bleed however is due to poor build quality or QC, and if it's not too severe you might even be able to fix it yourself (and if it is too severe you should RMA it).

>>57224540
>why would I want to watch heavily compressed 640x480 MPEG2 videos?
Because some things are only available on DVD?
And besides, the DVD spec goes up to like 10mbps. If you want to see heavily compressed MPEG-2, there are plenty of TV stations that broadcast in HD at similar bitrates. For SD content it's not so bad.
>>
>>57227384
(I would like to add that I do not care that mpv doesn't support DVD menus)

i have this in mpv.conf

sub-auto=all
sub-paths=Sub:sub:Subs:subs:Subtitle:subtitle:Subtitles:subtitles

when i start a video which has a .sub and a .idx subtitle files mpv loads only one of them - the .idx

how to load all subtitle files?

You obviously need to download nircmdc and put the complete path to the .exe file here (unless you're already created an env path)

Also you need to create a custom resolution in either nvidia's panel or using CRU

I watched Akira on DVD and I can't believe how bad it looks compared to the BD release.
Had to watch it again because of how good it looked.
>>
>>57228539
I did that, but it didn't work even with the filepath.

I've already done that, just need to get the script working.
>>

Everything should be set then. You'll probably missing something obvious. I'm not at home right now so I can't show you how I set up.

It's not switching to 72hz though, it's staying at 60. My filepath looks like this autospeed-nircmdc="C:/Users/(NAME)/Documents/mpv/nircmdc/nircmdc.exe". I tried with backslashes and that didn't worth either.

There's one 24fps video on youtube that doesn't work and I have no idea why

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1fT7_dYyGc

It's the only video that i've ever watched that doesn'tr trigger the script.
>>
>>57228619
Weird. Would it be at all detrimental to just set my monitor to 72Hz at all times rather than use the script?
>>
>>57228637
>Would it be at all detrimental to just set my monitor to 72Hz
30fps nad 60fps videos will have judder. 30fps can probably be interpolated using tscale=oversample but that obviously won't affect youtube videos. Also games locked at 30 or 60 will also have judder
>>
>>57228655
Ah, I see, makes sense. Thanks for the help.
>>
>>57228667
Also you don't need the 24hz option, does your monitor even support that? Even if it does autospeedwin will always choose the first frequency to the left so in your case since you have "72,60,24" it will always pick 72 whenver it's playing something that's 24fps. I suggest you create two more frequencies - 50 and 48. There are quite a few 25fps videos around that double to 50Hz and there might be more 48fps movies in the future besides the hobbit - that trend may very well translate to youtube videos
>>
>>57228690
Good point. I assume I would need to also add those through CRU?
>>
>>57228766
I think so. Never used it but I have to add them to nvidia panel
>>
>>57228778
My monitor doesn't seem to support 48Hz, so I'll just skip it. Did you use autospeed-spause at all? Changing it doesn't seem to have an effect, though having the video pause while it changes the refresh rate would be nice.
>>
>>57228843
>Did you use autospeed-spause at all
Nah. It only changes whenever I run the video so it doesn't bother me at all since the first 3 seconds are either black or an introduction without anything important

the keyboard allows you to do everything as well, and you also only need one hand for it, so I don't really buy your argument

plus, you'll have your dominant right hand free for your nether regions, which is superior to your left hand.

Strongly disagree

So can I use madvr in mpv now? Even with superres shaders it still kind of looks blurry. Heck I don't think any of the shaders I put do anything. Are they just placebo?
>>
>>57229641
>the keyboard allows you to do everything as well, and you also only need one hand for it, so I don't really buy your argument
you have an entire keyboard to travel with your hand and you'll also need to move the arm. Meanwhile your arm barely moves when holding the mouse and with high enough sensitivity you only move the hand a little

yes. They're all placebo and expectation bias

people expect madVR and heavy shaders to look good, so they automatically look good to them. They would fail an ABX

Well it's certainly sharper.
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/185096

I honestly just want a less resource intensive alternative for my laptop but all the mpv shaders are not doing anything. Pretty sure I'm just not setting my mpv.conf right.

Like:
vo=opengl-hq:...:user-shaders="~~/shaders/nnedi3-nns32-win8x4.hook,~~/shaders/nnedi3-nns32-win8x4.hook"

Where is the that shader folder in windows? Where exactly do I put these hook files? I tried putting them in a shader folder in the same directory as mpv.exe and also the folder in roaming. But it still looks the same?

Also why shouldn't I just copy/paste the mpv.conf in the OP like a retard?
>>
>>57230068
At a normal viewing distance I barely see any difference between the two. In motion it would be basically irrelevant unless I was leaning forwards and trying to figure out which one was sharper

The only reason you will enjoy it more is because of the placebo associated with *knowing* it's sharper, regardless of whether or not it actually is.
>>
>>57229641
But I'd like to multitask with browser and other stuff while watching some youtube videos. The reason I use left hand for fondling my balls is that I use my copmuter(left side) as a legrest, and my second monitor is tilted on my left side, so I'm naturally tilted so that my left hand is more free to reign on my balls.

I have all of those binds on keyboard and use them if I'm using both hands, or if I'm watching fullscreen without multitasking.

On anime there isn't a lot of motion to begin with so it's really noticeable.

>>57230434
So what should I use?
>>
>>57230446
I'm sure madvr pic is sharper because of superres (works only when upscaling).

it should be in the same directory where mpv.conf.

Keep telling yourself that, I'm sure it will make the placebo stronger
