CentOS, Windows 8.1/10, and until today OS X. But the Mac was old so I'm going to trash it.

If I need another Mac in the future I'll probably buy another one, but I don't reckon I'll need it unless I move into Mobile Development.

This chart was written by a tech illiterate and is void.

I use Fedora 24.
>>
>>57216302
Every /g/ chart seems to be unfairly biased against OS X users because of the fashion meme, the "experienced mac user" category in particular is a bit inaccurate. There are plenty of programmers and CLI elitists who use OS X, not to mention designers who (albeit somewhat misguided) are still above the "facebook machine lolz" tier.

Windows 7, I got late into the Vista game and had no problems with Vista/7. I might explore other OSs in the future but for now I'm happy with 7 for work and games.
>>
>>57218041
Funnily enough It's actually the most popular OS among developers.
>>
>>57218161
Isn't that from GitHub? Isn't conclusive because not all developers use GitHub and not all GitHub users are developers.

osx is the only os i never got into as it required special hardware. i got into linux early on in 1994 so it was just a matter of catching up after kinda ignore it oce windows got stable enough (xp days). I setup a hackintosh but never boot into it as I don't see the point

Apparently it's from StackOverflow.

>Last year, Mac edged ahead of the Linuxes as the number 2 operating system among developers. This year it became clear that trend is real. If OS adoption rates hold steady, by next year's survey fewer than 50% of developers may be using Windows.

>Speaking of the Linuxes, Ubuntu is tops among them with 12.3% of the entire OS market for developers. Fedora, Mint, and Debian accounted for 1.4%, 1.7%, and 1.9% of all responses, respectively.
>>
>>57218210
>not all GitHub users are developers.
???
>>
>>57218257
I think it's largely because alot of devs want to be able to build for all platforms including ios and osx, which you can only really do with a mac unless you want to set up some rickety hackintosh.
>>

There's a lot of people like this: https://github.com/code4lib/antiharassment-policy/pull/49

It feels a lot freer desu
I can install it on whatever I want, then make hardware changes and do reinstalls without messing with renewing the license activation and worrying if I'll get good value out of it.
I can get my system updates from wherever I want and be sure that the OS isn't going to force an update and overwrite the bootloader without asking permission or overwrite a partition that doesn't belong to it.
The OS doesn't serve me ads and doesn't have to have a daemon running in the background scanning my files and sending a report about what I'm storing to James Comey.

OS X because why not
I got tired of waiting for Microsoft to get their shit together and stop trying to merge desktop with phone, Xbox and dragon dildo.
I also tried to use different Linux distros many times and didn't like them as they all require too much time to setup and maintain.
Then I installed hackintosh and got used to it pretty quickly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not denying that there's plenty or retarded decisions in Apple world, like why the hell is there such a thing as launchpad, and who was the idiot responsible for that window management, and why can't OpenGL, MTP and SMB just werk.
But overall it's a great OS that does everything I need.

Windows 7 because I listened to you faggots an installed Debian and literally nothing works without dicking around in the terminal and hunting down errors every time I try to install something.

Not that I'm against learning that kind of stuff, but it usually seems more like an exercise in patience rather than intelligence.

Do Linux users really feel superior to people just because it takes them 10X longer to install things, or do they just do it so they have an excuse to use the terminal more often so they can feel like uber hackers?

I know you are probably a troll but for me it's genuinly that I don't trust Microsoft or Apple for shit and care about my privacy. Getting to feel like a hacker is just a bonus.
>>
>>57220067
I'm not trolling, I just don't see the appeal in fighting to get every little piece of software working.

If I was super worried about Microsoft spying on me I guess I could see the appeal, but I don't think that running some other OS makes you THAT much harder to track is someone really wants to see what you're up to.

Debian is not very useful as a desktop OS. I have various distros across my servers but my desktop is Ubuntu. It picked up all the hardware without issue and works great. The only issues I've run into were certain use-cases in Wine.

On a side note it works extremely well for game emulators.

Linux - Antergos

I feel like I have better control over my system than with Windows. I can configure things how I want and actually find out what everything does. Having a package manager is really convenient. Also, no forced updates is a huge plus.

I use macOS because of the design and how solid it feels. It just makes sense. I don't know how to explain it. Those of you who use it understand. With every operating system I had to fight it to get what I wanted it to do. With macOS it does exactly what I want and then some. It's really the small things that make it so great. Just the overall feel of it is great. The design is perfect relative to the competition.

I used to use Windows when I played video games until I outgrew them and stopped being a child. Which is why I went to macOS in the first place because Windows had no purpose anymore and anything on Windows was done much better on macOS anyways, such as Photoshop. Honestly, I don't see a point in using Windows unless you play video games, but it's just my opinion.

I used almost all Linux distributions. I like Manjaro and Fedora. Arch was really good, never tried Gentoo. Ubuntu was alright, but I could never get into Debian. I don't know why. Although if I had to choose the "best" one, I'd say Debian is probably the champion although I'm not a fan.

Although for full disclosure... I'm really not into programming or computer science as I used to be. So, macOS has even more appeal to me. I really don't care about tinkering with things. I just want it to work and not have to worry about anything. I'm just tired of the bullshit, honestly. Spending hours messing around in Linux just isn't fun, it's tedious and unproductive. If I was still into computer science like I was four years ago, I'd probably be using Debian or something now. Or Windows if I still played gaymes.

There is a large minority of gender theorists and "diversity evangelists" on GitHub. They mostly just comment, but some of them have learned how to use git and change the names of variables and creates "code of conduct" and that sort of thing.

They are a huge chunk of Github users.

Mostly KDE Neon because I like having a system that doesn't require a lot of fussing with in order to work, and also Ark+Dolphin OOTB

A little W7 on the side for infrequent gaming, and also because I like having a safety net in case something goes wrong on the Linux side. (Used to be a concern - not really anymore, but the security is nice.)
>>
>>57216302
Windows 7 on my desktop. It works with all my hardware and I can use Cubase on it as well of the odd games here and there.

Arch Linux on my laptop, because it's only used for University and I feel more productive on Linux.
