i dont understand, it makes you cry?
>>57208305
If you have nvidia card, enter this in terminal
Tear-free like that shampoo for kids?
>>57208375
no screen tearing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing
ubuntu has bad sceen tearing for some reason
>>57208305
By using it with compfy GNOME instade of your l337 Arch
>>57208385
what the fuck 4chan
you need nvidia-settings installednvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="$(xrandr | sed -nr '/(\S+) connected (primary )?[0-9]+x[0-9]+(\+\S+).*/{ s//\1: nvidia-auto-select \3 { ForceFullCompositionPipeline = On }, /; H }; ${ g; s/\n//g; s/, $//; p }')"
>>57208305

lunix tards everyone
>>57208463
please do not bully me
took me 2 days to find this and I'm so happy I did
>>57208305
noobuntu is so bloated
>>57208375
>>57208401
>>57208414
thank you for this now I no longer have to use a compositor that makes windows lag when dragging
>>57208305
The first step is getting the right video drivers for your set up. People can't figure out how to get the open source drivers to work for the 900 and 1000 series, so you will have to go proprietary. Next, you will need to go into the Nvidia options menu to change your screen resolution and refresh rate. Unfortunately, the settings will be set to default after you reboot, unless you do something cryptic. After you apply the graphic settings in the Nvidia graphics options menu, you need to go to the Ubuntu graphics options menu, and just hit the "Apply" button, without changing anything. This will make the changes you made in the Nvidia options menu last after rebooting.

>>57208414
I'm not op by the way
>>57208779
glad it helped, shit like compton was the reason I kept looking. lagged way too fucking much
I still haven't tested if it's persistent through reboots, but that shouldn't be a problem to set up
>>57208811
nah I set it so that i3 will run it right when xorg starts up
>>57208414
I get loads of weird graphical glitches on awesomewm using this.compton --backend glx --paint-on-overlay --vsync opengl-swc
This is the only thing that has worked flawlessly for me with no tearing at all.
>>57208988
idk I'm on XFCE
Compton just lags like shit no matter which config I use
>>57208988
call me crazy but I actually loved to see hentai I jacked off to days ago when I would resize/split a window in i3 for a split second
>>57208414
This is excessive.
Install the 375 beta drivers and add this in the device or screen section of xorg.conf.Option "ForceFullCompositionPipeline" "On"
>>57209086
that option did not work for me on a dual monitor setup(was either not working at all or worked on 1 monitor, or fucked up the other monitor completely), and I believe the guy that wrote that line had the same problem
>>57208305
kwin w xrender for movies and/or disable fullscreen composition for games
>>57209086
I have never really messed with nvdia on lunix. I have cinnamon installed on a T420 without any issues but I have nvdia on here
Am I missing out?
>>57209046
how does that happen?
>>57209160
It completely removed tearing for me using Metacity's compositor. Before that setting was introduced as an x config option I was using it within the metamodes settings with the same effect. I don't see any reason not to use it.
>>57209117
I'm also using a dual monitor setup without problem. You are using 375 right? Maybe some other setting was interfering. This is my entire xorg.conf.Section "Device"

uninstall xf86-video-intel
fall back to the modesetting driver
more info here:
This package provides the driver for the Intel i8xx and i9xx family of chipsets, including i810, i815, i830, i845, i855, i865, i915, i945 and i965 series chips.
This package also provides XvMC (XVideo Motion Compensation) drivers for i810/i815 and i9xx and newer chipsets.
This package is built from the X.org xf86-video-intel driver module.
The use of this driver is discouraged if your hw is new enough (ca. 2007 and newer). You can try uninstalling this driver and let the server use it's builtin modesetting driver instead.
https://packages.debian.org/sid/xserver-xorg-video-intel
>>57209411
The option to add it outside of the metamodes section was just added to the 375 driver, so it wouldn't have been available.
Unless you have some unusual setup, it's probably best to minimize xorg.conf and let its autodetect take care of everything. The only reason I have one at all is for that one setting.
The coolbits is for fan control and I'd like to use it, but I don't like the idea of using a script to control fan speed.
>>57209356
well i don't have issue son cinnamon. an di think compton works well on xfce4. so should be all good
>>57208305
That WebM took 23 seconds to load. Thanks cheap Canadian hosting!
>>57209908
You might be able to drop compton and use xfce's native compositor. One less unnecessary program running.
does cinnamon work flawlessly with fedora? anyone know? i don't want to install if it's all glitchy and shit
>>57210446
Fine for me on arch. and was on ubuntu before. never tried fedora. sorry
>>57209189
alot of things happen when you don't use a compositor and that is one of them
>>57209356
thanks for telling me to upgrade my drives void linux still has 367 and this option alone is worth grabbing and installing the beta drivers
