If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or Mac.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

My themes do this shit. No buttons, no highlighting. What do?

I tried /to/, but maybe this is a better place to ask.
At the moment I have a clean Windows 7 install on my X220, but I decided I wanted to dual boot with Manjaro. I can clear up room for a partition just fine, but when I try to actually create it and install Manjaro I get an error.
Anyone got any ideas as to what the deal may be? For what it's worth, I'm using an SSD.

Why can't I set the colors in i3wm? My syntax is proper, the config file is read since changing gap width works, but changing the colors' hex values doesn't change anything. Maybe it doesn't affect the programs I have installed right now? I have only tried Firefox, xterm and aterm in gui.
Which GNU/Linux distribution I should install in this old laptop? Would I have compatibility problems with the hardware?

Depends on how much time you are willing to put into making everything work and how much you know about Linux.
Most distros have live CD versions that can be just booted from a flash drive. This way you can see if you like how things work. I don't know how much of hardware compatibility lies in the kernel and how much is distro related, though. I think there won't be much of a difference between distros. From my experience, it will never be perfect and you will always have to spend some time repairing stuff (at least at the beginning, once it works and you don't need to do crazy stuff on that laptop, it will just work). I would install Arch with some lightweight DE on it. Or Debian. Keep it simple. It's all really subjective though. You can check if there is any Linux documentation for your specific hardware config. In the end though, you have to try things and see for yourself what works best for you and your laptop.
How do I reset the look of xterm/uxterm?
I understand that mint was compromised and backdoors had been placed in downloads, is there a recent audit or some sort of version that hasn't been comprised?

Just switch to a better OS already.
