Go you gave up the life of a child and took up the life of a fag instead?

I guess that explains why over 80% of business uses Windows, while only interns and newfaggots use Macs (before they are forced to switch to anything else).

Subjective, unless you define "performance".

HDDs are slow, loud and consume a lot of power, reducing battery life.
Just use an SSD that's large enough.

Not when your shitty laptop throttles doing tasks that a machine which costs $700 less can do without throttling.
Especially when computers with proper mechanical attachment cost less compared to an Apple laptop which is attached together with cheap adhesive, that happens to have a fan exhausting heat into it for shits and giggles.

kinda sad that I see this opinion being quite popular on /g/

I feel like someone is saying that he stopped reading books, watch movies, tv shows,...
because they are all for kids
stupid stories, stupid fun that you no longer can have...
who has time for that right?

I too dont play as much as I used to

in high school, I would claim that I wasn't gaming as much as I used to because it was the cool thing to do

then in the past few years, I went from gaming whenever I could, to losing interest gradually, to not gaming at all for periods.

Why? time constraints initially, but then carpal tunnel. I wasn't against gaming until I had rsi/carpal tunnel or whatever label you want to slap on it.

When your wrist and finger are hurting, you have regrets about how you could have spent your time.
>>
I using a gaming laptop, but I pretty much never play video games.

They're usually the cheapest way to get a decent amount of power if you do CAD stuff. When my company offered to buy me a new laptop, I priced out the MSI I'm using right now for about 2000 dollars, when a similarly spec'd Dell would've been about 3500.

There's literally no reason to pay an extra 1500 just to avoid looking like a manchild.
>>
>>57209979
>kinda sad that I see this opinion being quite popular on /g/

It's the exact same kind of people who say things like "Gaming is for kids, why don't you grow up and find something /productive/ to do with your time? Now excuse me while I sit down and watch Real Housewifes of God Fucking Knows Where for 4 hours! Because I'm an adult!" They don't understand someone else's hobbies, so they shit all over them to justify their own.

Do whatever you want, that's the point of a hobby, it's something you enjoy doing even if it's not particularly productive.

>"Subjective"

Do you not understand economics?

Price vs performance on almost ALL metrics, price of Apple machines is more than one standard deviation above price of machines of comparable performance.

By definition the hardware is overpriced. If you are arguing that the brand or the hardware/software cohesion and available support offsets that... I don't have the information on hand to measure that, and my outrage at your perspective extends only to the end of this post.
>>
>>57207136
That is true. Only one person in my company, out of 10000, uses a Mac because they're a graphic design faggot or something and they understand we aren't going to help them fix anything that happens to it.

Did you read the whole thing right?

"Last year, Previn gave a bit more detail, claiming that 40% of PC users called the IT help desk, versus just 5% of Mac users. Again, this sounds damning for Microsoft, but the criteria are vague and the reasons behind the problems aren’t given."

So, ok, we could infere that macs are better, or that at IBM they buy really shitty PC's or that they are extremely lame at interpreting and deciphering the arcane MS licensing shennanigans. But lets remember that the author, not me, not you, the author of the article could not find the reasons behind this savings.

No-one ive encountered in development; be it the programming, business or research side uses a macintosh. The sheer amount of restrictions both hardware and software wise make their computers about as useful as an ipod, at a cost premium. Ive found running Windows 10 with a Linux partition gives me everything I need. I'll upgrade my workstation card every year and try and minimise render times by running the most ram possible. You can't do that with a Mac and you need to in order to stay competitive and improve your turnover. Running a PC + Linux gives you access to a variety of better parts, the best possible programming/rendering environment at a lower cost.
>>
>>57206735
You'll notice this is a NASA press event full of marketing and media staff. Macs total lack of user control is an advantage here with NASA providing its chump staff with computers they can't fuck with too much or do anything particularly important with.
>>
A Mac and console combination is the best solution.
PC gaming is expensive and not worth the minimal graphics upgrade.

Yeah it's not like OSX is the most popular OS among developers or anything.

OSX isn't some kind of UNIX operating system it's just like the OS you find on an iPod right guise?
>>
do you
-not understand computer hardware or price/performance?
-not need a lot of processing power for your type of work?
-value convenience+aesthetics over everything else?

then i don't see the issue with going for a mac. Best not to be elitist about it though because there are certainly alternatives that work as well or better if you're not the type who has so little time to spare to setup their work space they keep a piss bottle and shit jug nearby.

>>57207201
And what do you need that much power for? If you actually have a good reason, why do you need it on a personal laptop for browsing? Apple the only company that isn't using shit 16:9 resolutions on laptops. Tech is advanced enough that a $300 laptop is sufficient for browsing, most programming, emulator games, etc. If you're doing video, 3dcg, or photo editing a Mac still runs plenty fast regardless of the hardware because they get to choose what hardware to use and optimize the OS for that hardware.
