I see these threads all the time about "oh yeah my 100TB serber" and people with 10TB of storage in their desktop. What are you guys honestly storing? I have at the most 2TB, and that's pushing it.

Storage space is pretty cheap. Would you really want to limit yourself if not doing so didn't take much more money/effort?

Me personally? I only have 6TB and a 2TB server, stores movies and TV Shows. and the 6TB games are for muh games.

2TB of porn is good start.

My dedicated media server stores BluRay remuxes which easily are around 20-40 GB depending on length.
Also music and TV shows.
Will be adding a 2U rackmount chassis with 8 HDD bays soon.

I used to store bluray rips as in the 40 and 100GB variants, tv shows, anime and manga on 20TB array. After a few non recoverable errors making me lose 10TB content and me realizing I'll never rewatch even 0.01% of what I hoarded I just wiped my drives and sold everything except a 4TB drive for steam games.

Even if it's cheap, you're still wasting your money if you don't need it
i hoard old files because deleting things is horrifying

I have ~12.6 TB of data in total and my current storage capacity is 16 TB (4x4 TB). I then have an equal number of external disks for backup.
Downloading some cam streams
getting like 10G new stuff every day so it fills shit pretty fast.
I might not even watch any of them ever but whatever.
multiple virtual machines takes also lot of space.
About 1.5TB of poorly organized data from about 15 years ago to today.
It would probably be under 1TB if I actually arranged it properly to get rid of the (likely) multiple copies of everything.
Because it's so badly organised I couldn't tell you how much of it is what, but that's how things are.
Games: 75GB
Program Files in general: 150GB
Self-made programs: <25GB
Word docs, PDFs, Powerpoints, etc.: <40GB
Music: >250GB on an external HDD

I broke my common habit of hoarding porn like three months ago. I used to have 400GB of it.

Not much point on buying more stuff just because "you can" when you should buy it because "you need it".
>some classmate bought a 700 dollars samsung laptop
>really beefy laptop
>he literally uses it only for web browsing
Even a teacher told him he should have bought a 300 dollars one at most if that's the only thing he wanted to do on it, and save the remaining money for something else.
Sometimes it surprises me how people buys stuff only based on the numbers, rather than their own needs
daily reminder that if you can't make a cake from those ingredients you are literally retarded
I used to have a library of TV shows and music, a pathetic one though, maybe 100GB at most. I never watched / listened to most of it.
These days I've got a memepad with 320GB and I barely use a third of it. 6GB RAM too, and I rarely see it using more than a gig of that.
All this wasted space. Reminds me of myself. My parents were right.

>each file has more than 1GB
8TB storage, only about 3TB of it used by games, movies, and programs
i have a NAS with 2tb of my tv shows on it. at one point i also had 4tb worth of movies on it, but those HDs died and i didn't have any backups....other than that i have about 400gigs of music. that's about it.

I have a 1TB storage drive and a 128GB m.2. I use maybe 450GB total, including games
Mostly HD video, software and games that are increasingly coming in at 40GB+
