Does anyone here work in cyber security? How does one get into this field?
>>57187843
Step 1: be l33t hacker
Step 2: assign yourself onto company payroll
>>57187843
you gitgud
no seriously you become good with network / programmation / scripting, web and sysadmin, once you did that you can try to enter infosec, you want be good at something in security and exploit it if you don't know that something very well

By not taking a ceh
>>57187941
>>>/v/ or >>>/pol/...
I know its lmao ((reddit)) but the netsec subreddit has hiring threads for every quarter of the year. I think it would serve you well to check the job descriptions out.

if you pick the right school you will have to turn down job when graduating
>>57187843
start doing CTFs in college, learn how the basics of exploitation works and then apply somewhere like raytheon SI for an internship doing vuln research
anything else isn't real security

>anything else isn't real security
no matter what country you live in your gubbament will be hiring cyber security specialists. they often have junior programs too
>>57191565
anyone that says cyber is looked down upon instantly in this field, just like anyone who thinks their dumbass security certificates from SANS means anything
what do you actually want to do
>>57191589
>anyone that says cyber is looked down upon instantly in this field
Nope. You likely are not "in the field" then.
I am not either, but I have plenty of friends who are (private firms offering pentesting, larger firms like Symantec, government agencies). One's a PhD in cryptography, one is a CS major, one didn't get a degree at all. Some have certificates.
None of them are autists or anti-social people, however.
>>57191646
only IT retard inbreds say cyber
you still haven't said what you want to do
if you have friends in the field why are you asking how to get into it?
symantec doesn't do VR, they do postmortem analysis, they've never sold an 0day
VR is what I consider the quintessential offensive security role
>>57191703
I'm not OP
I just saw your underaged, anti-education loser kid post
If you're an autistic loser you can do as many CTFs as you like, you still won't land a job
>>57191722
okay, i'll continue making 180k a year doing VR selling 0days while you keep spewing your autistic garbage and set up firewalls :)
maybe one day you can sit at the big boys table and buy your own IDA license
>>57191741
Your opinion only matter to yourself. Delude yourself all you want.
I don't work in IT security like I already posted. I could however afford many IDA licenses and make it rain all over your mother.
>>57191741
are you the somali nigger who makes a jackass out of himself constantly?
>>57191789
I don't know why you think your opinion is relevant then if you don't know the first thing about real security
CTFs are literally the only way you're going to learn about MBE unless you go to a top tier school like RPI or CMU
>>57191722
Man don't knock on CTF. They are fun as hell and a great way to get some real hands on experience without having to risk spending time with bubba in prison.
>>57191826
Did you not dare take the step to move into adulthood?
>>57189270
No you get your CEH so you can get past HR monkeys who need to see that on your resume or they toss your application. You just never ever admit to anybody that you have it. EVER.
>>57187843
Just get any STEM degree and know how to program.
>>57191826
here's a detailed syllabus right here for MBE from RPI
https://github.com/RPISEC/MBE
the idea that you can't learn something online is ridiculous. you can learn everything online. thats the point.
these courses are for people who need spoonfed. which is understandable if you're not at the level where you gather information and draw your own conclusions, and need to be trained like a dog to do things. :)
>>57192639
ctfs are online what the fuck are you talking about
>>57187843
Well can you do anything at all?
>>57187843
Cyber security guy in my work just goes around servers/web/systems changing password every week
long ass passwords with his little notebook
>>57189720
are you just trying to fit in or...?
