1)Read the handbook:
https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/books/handbook/bsdinstall-pre.html

Also you can use CDN:
https://download.freebsd.org/ftp/releases/ISO-IMAGES/11.0/
2)Look at FreeBSD wiki:

i know this is a stupid question, but why can't you burn dvd1.iso to a usb stick - why do they need memstick.img?
> -dvd1.iso: This file contains all of the files needed to install FreeBSD, its source, and the Ports Collection. It also contains a set of popular binary packages for installing a window manager and some applications so that a complete system can be installed from media without requiring a connection to the Internet. This file should be burned to a DVD using a DVD burning application.

Difference file system also isn't many OS(especially Windows) can write bootable iso without troubles, but TrueOS(PC-BSD) made hybrid iso.

FreeBSD has such a cute mascot. I really want to try it one day.

> dd if=./foo.iso of=/dev/bar
vs
> dd if=./foo.img of=/dev/bar
same thing
