Also, air gapped systems are sometimes targeted by custom made malware, designed to infect machine after machine, in hopes that one of them is used to install software, updates or data on the air gapped system. Stuxnet is one example, though I'm not sure if the target was air gapped. It would have worked that way on an air gapped system though.
There are also reports of using sub audible sound from the speakers and mic for bridging an air gap, though I don't know that it's been found in the wild.
