give me ONE reason not to stop defragging my hard drive.
by the time it finishes it will be fragmented again
just buy an ssd
You know what the TRIM command is?
Automatic defragmentation on every disk write.

Oh no my SSI check was only $150 this month, guess I'm eating ramen noodles again!
What's "defragging"?
>>57182162
it's 4 times as much for 1/4 the space
this is for an ext hdd
>>57182510
>the only consideration of storage is size/cost
anon cmon
>>57182510
How can you live with yourself hard drives are slow as shit and noisy.
>>57182418
Gradually writing stuff onto an hdd puts files in different sectors, meaning different physical spots on the platters. Defragmentizing rewrites your data into as close a space as possible
>>57182510
Well, its about the same price for 1/4 the space, but as said they're way faster.

>>57182639
it's for watching movies, it doesn't need to be fast
>>57182673
well then get a fuckhuge, cheaper hdd, I dont give a fuck, I'm just some dude on the internet. For what its worth I haven't defragged a hdd in like 10 years
quicker to copy all the files to another drive, format, then copy them back
>>57182673
>not using magnetic tape
pleb
>>57182614
I know that, anon. The joke is that I use ext4 which doesn't need to be defragged. :^)
