They were financial disasters. The average nerd is under-funded as far as the major IT names were concerned and the big money outfits who bought container-loads of gear had reps cold-calling them every day.
Nobody wants to go to a Computa Expo to see a bunch of identical exhibits from dying shopfront outfits. A stroll through the local mall would be better. And you'd see chicks.

I remember seeing Webcam technology being demonstrated for the first time in my life at one of these. I had heard of it before that and seen it in magazines but actually seeing it in action was amazing to me at the time. This was like 1998 and I was in 6th grade.
